Salthouse has been designing the finest quality yachts for over 65 years. This southern hemisphere-based architect has developed a well-proven “down-east” style motor yacht. FOR DECADES, the M49 hull has been tested around New Zealand’s rugged coastlines. These hull designs, in keeping with the workboat heritage of today’s most successful sedan-style cruisers, owe their origins as workboats for commercial fishing and offshore angling.

The deck of the Hylas M49 is constructed of hand-laid multiaxial E-glass fiberglass laminate, end-grain balsa core, and vinyl-ester resins. In areas of high stress, the core is replaced with a solid single skin laminate. The deck is finished with a white isophthalic gelcoat. The hull to deck joint is constructed with a substantial inboard recessed flange reinforced with solid multiaxial fiberglass laminate chemically bonded with high-performance adhesive and then mechanically fastened with stainless steel bolts for superior strength and stiffness of the hull.
