Description
Dufour 335 "Tana" – Affordable Pocket Cruiser with Big Features
Tana is a BVI-registered Dufour 335 Grand Large, an ideal choice for a couple or small family looking to cruise the Caribbean affordably. Designed with comfort and practicality in mind, she offers a spacious, thoughtfully arranged layout—rare in boats of this size.

Cruise-Ready Layout:
Originally built for the charter market, Tana features a generous cockpit that seats up to 8 people, dual helms that open the space, and a fold-down transom for easy water access and added space at anchor.

On deck, she’s designed for easy handling with all lines led aft, allowing for safe and manageable single-handed sailing. The shrouds are well positioned, providing unimpeded side deck access.

Hurricane History & Refit
Tana was briefly in charter before sustaining storm damage during Hurricane Irma in 2017, when the port-side transom cracked, allowing water ingress up to the galley. In response, the engine was replaced with a used Volvo Penta (approx. 3,000 hours). All wiring aft of the galley was redone, and the fridge compressor and stove were replaced.

Interior staining is visible on cabinetry aft of the galley, but the forward sections remain clean and intact. Overall, the below-deck space gives a good impression with solid cabinetry, generous headroom, and a modern, liveable design.

Interior & Comfort
Despite her size, Tana feels remarkably spacious. She offers:
  • Two full-sized cabins
  • A large head with storage
  • Ample lazarette space
  • A bright, modern salon with good ventilation and layout
Her interior layout and natural light make her well-suited for extended stays aboard.

Recent Mechanical Work
  • Sail drive seal replaced (2023)
  • Heat exchanger, exhaust elbow, and pan gasket replaced 2024
  • Fridge compressor and stove upgraded
Sails & Rigging
  • Genoa was improperly cut from a larger sail; currently usable when reefed, but should be replaced
  • Fully battened mainsail is serviceable but aged
  • Standing rigging: Age unknown, annual inspections recommended
  • Estimated cost for new jib, main, and sail bag: ~$6,000 (6-week lead time)
Defects & Recommendations
Tana is a project-ready boat with considerable potential. A recent survey (available on request) outlines the following essential and suggested repairs:

  • Cracked bow deck join – repair required
  • Hull-to-deck join at transom – damaged, needs structural repair

  • Liferaft – last serviced in 2014, service or replace
  • No emergency tiller
  • No secondary anchor
  • VHF lacks MMSI/DSC
  • No GPS, radar, AIS, or navigation charts
Cosmetic / Moderate Defects:
  • Dodger and canvas – in poor condition, require full replacement
  • Cabin lighting and fans – several not working
  • Wind instruments/repeaters – unreliable or nonfunctional
  • Steaming and anchor lights – not working or unconfirmed
  • Cockpit table supports – missing
