As Cruising World's 2011 winner for Best Cruiser, 40 to 49 feet they summed the Dufour 45e up best: "Everyone, of course, goes cruising for different reasons. But the BOTY judges felt strongly—and I agree—that an enjoyable sailing experience should be a big part of the equation. To borrow a French phrase, the Dufour 45e’s raison d’être—the very core and essence of its conception—is fast, comfortable outings and passages under sail. To all who were involved in the boat’s creation, we’ll conclude this review with one last familiar term to our friends in France. BROVO"
Building on that, Galatea is unquestionably the nicest, most well equipped Dufour 45e you will ever find. Her original build spared no expense in making this the best performing most comfortable boat possible. Tall rig and standard draft provide for powered up sailing in light air. Easy handling is enhanced with all electric winches including Harken Rewind primaries for sailing and bow thruster for docking. Genset and aircon make for comfortable cruising any time. A full suite of B&G electronics including H5000 processor installed in 2016.
Galatea is a single owner boat that has been captian/professionally maintained since new. If your desires are focused on performance cruising with a little distance racing mixed in, this is your boat. She absolutely will not disappoint.

The flowing lines of the coach-roof, the uncluttered deck, a cockpit that’s broad yet offers good protection… High-quality deck fittings coupled with Dufour ergonomics enable everyone to handle this animal easily. At the helm, nothing can stop you — you have a thoroughbred racer in your hands. The interior impresses at once with the space and fittings worthy of a large cruising yacht. Many connoisseurs have remarked on its superiority in this respect, compared with yachts that aim for comfort alone. Perfection?
The owner has access and experience with many performance and cruising boats. His comments are as follows:
She remains a very comfortable boat with cozy sleeping arrangements and all the bells and whistles you need to happily cruise with your family on the Chesapeake and beyhond while also being a performer. Between the J/111, Mills 68, the Swan 54 and the Dufour, I’d have to say she’s one of the more pleasant boats to helm - the steering and handling on her are particularly good both under sail as well as in forward and reverse and when docking.
I sold this boat new back in 2013. It continues to be my favorite Dufour model of all time. She is just the perfect balance of performance, comfort and style. Galatea was configured with no expenses spared and she has been maintained similarly. It's an overused statement, but in many respects, she is better than new.
