When the Najad 511 model was launched in 2003 it was the flag ship from Najadvarvet at this time.
Najad 511 is designed by Judel Vrolic & Co. It is a relatively fast cruising yacht with a fine sharp bow, a deep bilge with a bolted lead keel and a skeg hung rudder. The Najad 511 is a “mile eating” cruising yacht, capable of crossing any ocean in the best style and comfort.
Najad 511 NIKE is a special yacht. It was built for the current (first) owners to MCA Category Zero which incorporates a high degree of ocean safety, such as solid storm covers that can be securely installed at skylights and portlight, automatic fire extinguisher, properly secured batteries, tinned electrical wiring, storm jib and trysail and various safety equipment.
Sailing wise NIKE comes with an electric in-mast furling mast, 2 x electric furling head sails, 5 electrical winches, hydraulic boom vang and aft stay operated from the cockpit which makes sails handling easy and effortless - perfect for a small crew.
The interior includes an owner’s aft cabin with en suite heads / shower, a longitude galley, navigation table and a saloon with a sofa and two comfortable chairs. In front of the mast bulkhead, which is laminated to the hull and the deck, you will find two guest cabins, one with a V-berth and one with bunk beds and a heads with shower.
In fact, I was working as project manager at Najad when building this yacht. Together with the owner couple we had many discussions about what equipment should be installed and how various items should be designed in order to make NIKE into a safe and comfortable ocean going yacht. In the end it turned out to be one of the best equipped Najad yachts, especially when it comes to be easy to handle by a small crew.
NIKE has done about 50,000 Nm sailing and has been meticulously maintained from the beginning and have been updated continuously.
This yacht is perfect for a couple or a family to sail the seven seas. Being built according to MCA specification she is also capable of being prepared for doing charter at the highest level at any ocean, if this is a requirement for her new owner.
Nike is named after the Greek goddess ”Nike by Samothrake”, the goddess of victory. She has lived up to her role and always taken us through hardships to a safe haven.
NIKE is part of our family. She is the second Najad that we have owned, we had her built specifically to suit our needs for blue water cruising. We wanted her to comply with the very strict requirements of the MCA to Category 0 so that we could be sure that she would be safe in any ocean – wherever we found ourselves. We also wanted to do some limited charter which we have done, and have made many new friends this way. We did not want to have any limits to our sailing programme, hence it was important to us to be able to sail with no restrictions on our route.
NIKE has always looked after us and we have returned the compliment. She has been constantly updated and maintained to the highest standards. We are therefore confident that her next owners will have a yacht that is completely ready for serious cruising. NIKE is a well-mannered sailing yacht, a comfortable home and she is easily handled by a crew of 2 – we have sailed her thousands of miles 2 handed very happily.
We will be very sorry to say good bye to her, but we have decided that we would like a smaller yacht which we will sail in our home area instead. If this were not the case, we would not dream of selling her.
