Description
An exceptional Custom Open 50 racing yacht with an enviable track record. Pegasus is still the fastest boat of her type in the world. She has won Transpac Races as well as Pacific Cup Races. In the 2008 edition of the Pacific Cup Pegasus was the first overall yacht to finish beating TP52’s and Santa Cruz 70’s, won the event on corrected time and set a new San-Francisco to Hawaii double-handed record. The following year, Philippe Kahn and Mark Christensen beat the existing double-handed Transpacific Record by more than two days. In 2012 the yacht was campaigned as Truth, by Class 40 sailor Alex Mehran, when he smashed the solo Transpac record, beating the Open 60 Wild Thing’s time by nearly two and a half days.
More recently the custom Open 50 Pegasus has been based in the UK for several years and campaigned by Ross Hobson/Adrian Banks in many RORC Races, including the 50th Anniversary Fastnet, Myth of Malham and Cowes-Dinard. Since 2021 she has undergone significant re-fit work including new sails, engine, electronics, standing and running rigging, and has been exceptionally well cared for by enthusiastic and knowledgeable owners.
The Custom Open 50 Pegasus was designed and built to be easily handled for shorthanded, high performance offshore ocean racing at maximum speed. With her impressive build quality and substantial build strength Pegasus really fly’s when stretching her legs on long passages. An ideal entry for any of the classic 600-mile offshore races and an easy and satisfying yacht to sail that is well-prepared and ready to go! This is the ultimate offshore fifty-footer and one of the coolest and most innovative yachts of her time.
She is currently lying in Hamble on her purpose-built cradle.
