Description

Van De Stadt designed Tasman 48 Blue-Water expedition yacht

Tax Paid in Australia

Two detailed walk-around videos available on request

A 1999 Van De Stadt designed Tasman 48 blue-water cruiser - Deck Saloon model - designed for sailing in icy waters.

After a substantial refit in 2023 this long-legged steel cruiser recently crossed oceans providing safety and comfort

This professionally-built Van De Stadt Tasman 48 Deck Saloon yacht was constructed to an extremely high standard in Australia and was built of rolled steel - and is so well built that some think she is made of GRP.

After purchase in 2023 an extensive refit was carried out to ensure safety for all on board:

- New Standing Rigging

- New Running Rigging

- Mast stepped and checked

- New generator and substantial re-wire

- Extensive safety and navigation equipment installed.

See 'Expedition Ready' for the further details on the refit works carried out.

When over-wintering in 24/25 in a heated shed at East River Marina, Nova Scotia, all the rigging was checked and all the cotter pins replaced before re-stepping the mast. The primary sails Main, Genoa and Spinnaker were reconditioned. In Spring 2025 a new Kohler generator was installed plus careful wetted area inspection and prop service plus new cutlass bearing, new anti-foul, etc, prior to re-launch.

The next custodian will benefit from the substantial investment in this proven yacht which is both powerful (70 feet of mast with a stepped height of 4 feet and a 150% Genoa) yet very manageable single-handed with all control lines back to the cockpit.
The four electric winches make light of choppy conditions achieving speeds of about 8 knots in Trade-wind sailing.
The twin wheels in the spacious cockpit help give control and confidence when manoeuvring or docking.

With three sleeping cabins and two bathrooms this Van De Stadt Tasman 48 Deck Saloon yacht, Nanook X, is fully equipped down below for long passages.  Amidships, the well-equipped galley has a two burner electric cooktop (LPG is used at sea), two fridge-freezers, extensive bench top space and many storage lockers.

In the saloon the elevated C shaped settee to port provides excellent views even when seated.  There is a steering control using one of the two autopilots located at the navigation station (to starboard in the saloon) being the command centre.

THIS VESSEL IS A PROVEN MOTHER SHIP/BASE FOR EXPLORERS
Recently returned from a very successful Expedition

The owner is an intrepid polar explorer who wanted a yacht to travel towards each Pole (both Artic and Antarctic) and also stay close to polar ice for a few days . He bought this yacht with its proven pedigree of sailing in icy waters and legendary performance by the renowned Dutch designers Van De Stadt and commissioned the refit in 2023.  She is the mother ship to crew members who explore ashore on polar ice for a few days.

During 2023, 2024, and 2025, this yacht has taken every member of the Expedition into remote climate sensitive regions of the Planet and returned them all safely home afterwards:

Leg 1 - Southern Ocean

Leg 2 - Patagonian Ice Fields

Leg 3 - Antarctica

Leg 4 - Iceland

Leg 5 - Arctic

An extensive history file comes with this yacht.

NB.  The two videos in this Listing have been very compressed from the owner's original - please ask for details.

Please contact the Broker for the two walk-around videos in original format that are too large for this site.
One is an above-deck walkaround and the other is a below-deck walkthrough the vessel).
