The Catalina/Morgan 38 was the first new Morgan produced after Catalina purchased Morgan. This is a good sailing, well-appointed cruiser that feels much larger than her 38 feet. The Morgan 38 is a great center cockpit vessel with a nicely laid out deck & cockpit with accommodations below including two private heads, one with shower. There is also a cockpit shower at stern by fold up stainless-steel swim ladder.
This is the shallow Wing Keel version and has a 38HP inboard diesel engine with approximately 4,000 hours of use. The wooden interior provides a more traditional sailboat ambiance. This 1993 Morgan 38 is in a freshwater lake.
Standard Mainsail
On Deck:
The aft deck is a large area that leads down by port and starboard steps to a sugar scoop swim platform with large ladder that folds down into the water. There is a shower to rinse off after a nice swim. The center cockpit is large and long with good access to the coaming mounted winches. There are Companionway doors instead of hatch boards for easier access.
The side decks are pleasantly wide from the stern rail all the way forward. The fore-deck has a nice anchor locker with electric windlass. The anchor is fed through a single stainless roller off the port side of the bow.
All working lines are led aft to the cockpit by turning blocks and controlled with rope clutches. The main is the traditional on boom, and the head-sail is on a roller furler.
Accommodations:
This vessel has 2 staterooms, 2 head layout equal to layouts found on much larger sailboats.
Entering the Main salon to Port is a large L shaped settee with dinette table that will convert into a double berth. Across to Starboard is an additional settee with the Nav station just aft. The salon has 6'5" headroom and the entire cabin has good standing headroom. There is Teak & Holly Sole with the Teak interior and matching woodwork on the hull sides. The salon has storage above the seating with cabinets & shelving & below the seating as well.
Going forward to port is the forward head with a manual flush marine toilet and a sink with a pull-out faucet for showering. The forward head opens into the forward cabin that has a queen V-berth with a filler cushion. It has a hanging locker to starboard & two overhead hatches.
Galley is in the passageway leading aft to the primary stateroom. The galley has a deep double stainless-steel sink, two burner stove & oven, shelf and cabinet storage, counter opening for cold storage and dry storage.
The Primary Stateroom is aft with a Center line pedestal queen-size berth with cushioned benches on either side. There are several lockers and drawers for excellent storage. There is an en-suite head with separate shower stall. Port & Starboard hanging lockers with additional storage throughout stateroom. A dedicated 8000 BTU reverse-cycle A/C for comfort.
