Description
Nautor Swan 55, GEMM is a wonderful cruising yacht – yet she is still a true Nautor's Swan with excellent sailing performance. The 55 centre cockpit model is one of few pure cruising yachts that Nautor built. Conceived from the outset as a central cockpit, easy to handle yacht with good volume, plenty of stowage and tankage. As you will read in her details, she benefits from nay updates and refits. Most notable of which is her new teak deck.

Construction
RCD Status: Our understanding is that the yacht is exempt from the essential safety requirements of the Recreational Craft Directive as she was built and placed into use within the EU prior to 1998.
Hull Construction:
- The hull is built of glass fibre-reinforced polyester by the hand laying-up method, using alternative layers of mat and roving – standard transom.
- Stiffeners are laid up over foam cores and reinforced with unidirectional glass.
- Structural bulkheads are of marine grade water-proof plywood laminated to hull and deck.
- Engine beds are of GRP with steel inserts. Special care is taken to assure rigid foundation and proper adhesion to hull.
- White (NP2000) with dark blue stripes (NP 7005).
- The mast is stepped through deck onto a metal mast step with movable shoe for mast rake adjustment. Tie rods at mast.
- Laminated reinforcements on the main bulkhead for the stainless-steel chain plates.
Note: In 2006, a complete and thorough epoxy treatment was made on the underwater hull in La Spezia. Gelcoat was removed, hull dried, rudder removed and serviced, hull coated with epoxy, seacocks serviced (some replaced).
In 2020-21 further work on the hull with all layers of antifouling removed manually with a scraper until the epoxy coat, 3 new layers of epoxy applied (Gelshield International) and antifouling.
The keel also had all old layers of antifouling removed manually with a scraper until the lead, 4 layers + primer of black epoxy tar were applied.
Deck Construction:
- Deck is made in foam-cored GRP sandwich construction.
- Single laminate with aluminium back-up plates under deck fittings.
- Coach roof white gelcoat with dark blue coaming stripe.
- Teak laid decks on side decks, coach roof and cockpit (new 12mm teak deck 2020-21).
- Anchor well locker forward.

Keel & Rudder:

- Ballast keel is a lead casting with antimony.
- Cast-in keel bolts are of high tensile stainless steel.
- Spade rudder of foam filled GRP with high-tensile tubular stainless-steel stock, supported by two roller bearings.
Note: in La Spezia in 2006 the rudder has been removed, dried, serviced, and coated like the hull.
