Tim Jackett designed the Tartan 31 to be a medium displacement cruiser with lots of power for performance and as many amenities as can be expected in 31 feet. She has a double swept spreader rig. The lead keel is a Scheel design. The hull has less wetted surface for light air and stability when the wind picks up. Tartan’s reputation of solid construction and good workmanship produce boats that are solid and well put together. Her cockpit is deep, self-bailing and accommodates the wheel. It is easy to move around the wide side decks and roomy foredeck. The shrouds are inboard.  There are handrails and molded in nonskid for safety. Down below there is businesslike nav station and a U-shaped galley. Bulkheads, cabinetry, etc. are all teak offset by an off-white partial liner. The sole is teak and holly. 6” cushions. The forward cabin has the usual double berth (6’9” long & 6’6” wide). The 7’x5’ quarter berth is very comfortable. The port settee is 6’6” and the starboard is 5’6” more suitable for a short person or child. The headroom is 6’2” in the main salon and 6’ forward. The engine has easy access from all sides including the stuffing box. Eight opening ports and two deck hatches provide excellent cross ventilation. Storage is adequate. The Tartan 31 strikes a nice balance between performance and cruising comfort. She has enough power for the casual club racer and plenty of stability to keep you out of trouble. This boat is located on Leech Lake in Walker MN and the slip is available to anyone who wishes to remain in the marina. 3 owners. Current owner for 10 years.
