The interior of the Hylas 51 is well ventilated, light and airy. “Shen Lung” features a
beautiful matching pattern varnished teak interior, with teak and holly cabin soles
throughout, as well as a large custom inlayed main salon table.
She has an Owner’s version layout with two large comfortable staterooms fore and
aft. Both feature queen sized berths with an upgraded mattress in the owner’s stateroom.
The master stateroom is aft and has a full centerline queen size berth. There is a
hanging locker in this cabin plus a generous number of storage lockers and drawers. A small curved settee is to port. There is a large storage area underneath the berth. The mattress is hinged to provide easy access. Three opening ports, a very large hatch, and a fan provide excellent ventilation for this cabin. The stateroom also has its own 7,000 BTU reverse cycle unit.
There is storage on all sides with a large closet. There is also storage under the platform bed. A mirrored closet faces the bed. Entry to a bathroom and shower stall attaches to the aft stateroom. A large portlight overlooks the bedroom. This portlight contain a solar-driven fan.
A remote slaved compass is present next to the bed.
This custom stateroom was enlarged in 2000 to accommodate guests in a queen-sized
bed. It also features its own private head with shower to starboard plus a separate
workshop area on the port side. There are two large hanging lockers that can be easily converted to lockers with shelves if desired.
The cabin sole is of teak and holly. There is a custom inlayed salon table made for
expanded seating capacity, with settee seating opposite. The salon is large and comfortable with ample storage.
The large “Gourmet” style galley features a three burner Force 10 stainless steel stove and
oven. There is also a microwave oven. She also has a double stainless steel sink, with ample galley storage. Refrigeration is provided by a 110-volt Grunert two holding plate system, for two top and front loading side-by-side compartments.

Solid hand laid Knitex laminate below the waterline for strength and load bearing properties. The side and decks are a sandwich construction using dininycell foam as a core. This type of construction provides light and strong structure for increased hull stiffness, together with good sound and thermal insulation.

Engine access is from both sides of the compartment as well as from the front by
removal of the companionway stairs. The generator is located forward of the
main engine. Other features include a Halon automatic fire extinguisher system
and oil change pump.
