American designed and Taiwanese built, this Ted Brewer Pilot House designed 40 footer packs a lot in. She is very nicely designed with a roomy raised saloon, two generous cabins, pilot berth and a great galley layout. She is a comfortable yacht to sail, has an inside and cockpit helm station and sail handling is so simple. A new engine in 2014, a complete hull re epoxy completed in 2020, a new 10,000 USD navigation package in 2020 and many other excellent features make this such a reliable prospect.
Sold to her present owners by YBC in 2018, LAYLA has been lavished with upgrades and renewals and is only regretfully for sale. The first undertaking was a complete hull re epoxy using WEST SYSTEM. A careful 7 month dry out and re build from gel coat up gave an excellent new lease of life. Anti-fouled in August 2020 and cleaned monthly, until placed on the hard August 2021. All through hulls were removed for servicing with some replacements, all under sole sections were thoroughly cleaned and re painted with epoxy paint. Lighting throughout was changed to LED with new lighting in engine bay, genset bay, head and galley. All nav electronics were thrown out and a complete new RAYMARINE package installed.

Entering the boat through the shallow companionway steps there is a (pilot) quarter berth to starboard, also used for any stowage or a wet locker. The settee wraps around port side and the table has large folding leaves which can remain up without compromise to the main thoroughfare. A corner cabinet on the port side, and close to cockpit, houses safety gear, grab bags etc. Excellent headroom, panoramic views from any seated position and the tinted windows are a bonus. New curtains installed in 2019, and all upholstery replaced at the same time. The “Captain’s Chair” at the internal helm position was also reupholstered in sturdy faux-leather in 2021. After a hard day’s sailing, opening the lighted and spacious cocktail cabinet on the starboard side adds a level of luxury, providing safe stowage for drinks and games alike.
Moving forward and dropping down two steps, the galley is a good design, double width, deep sink (countertop insert) and Force 10, gimballed oven (countertop covered) giving excellent working space. Two burner gas stove and oven, fridge plus a 42 litre SNOMASTER freezer (2020) in quarter berth floor space. Pressurised hot and cold water plus foot pumped fresh and salt water. There is a new 5 stage water filtration system installed under the galley sink, complete with counter top dedicated drinking water tap. In conjunction with the bimini water catching set up this has meant no watermaker has been necessary.
The guest double is opposite and owner's cabin full forward, both with full length hanging storage and many drawers and cabinets (with doors) for safe stowage of belongings.
Fitout is heavy on good solid teaks and remains in good condition. Lighting is generous, with red LED courtesy lights for night sailing in cabin sole steps, cabins and head. There is abundant storage on this yacht, the saloon can stow gear under the sole, behind settee backs, drawers and lockers. A neat cocktail cabinet is also auto LED lit.
Entertainment from a 24'' TV, DVD/Blu-ray system. Additional cockpit speakers connected to in-saloon stereo, with Bluetooth compatibility (2020).
There is a CRUISAIR air-conditioning system fitted (into saloon and both cabins) one compressor, and a domestic a/c unit.
A hot water system is accessible from under saloon sole, although has been decommissioned as not needed.
The yacht has an excellent self sufficient set up with its NORTHERN LIGHTS 8kW generator (serviced 2021) and 30 amp RARITAN battery charger, 110 VAC. RARITAN charger has been removed, serviced (2021) and reinstalled in maximum performance. A step down transformer for 220VAC marinas is housed close to companionway steps.
DC system is 12VDC with a house bank of 2 maintenance free 120Ah batteries plus 2 85Ah start batteries (2019).
DC charging from six solar panels and main engine 80 amp alternator and the generator. Two solar controllers, one needs replacing.
