Description
Alacrity was built by Fortuna Boat Builders, a professional builder, in Cape Town South Africa
then launched in 1990. For the next several years, Alacrity sailed proudly in the waters of the
South Atlantic before her next adventure.
Alacrity was completely overhauled in 2006 for a global circumnavigation. The hull, from about
12” above the waterline to the keel, has a progressive 6 to 12 additional layers of fibreglass to
reinforce the hull in preparation of the circumnavigation.
Alacrity has 2 separate lifting ring positions on the main cabin roof. One is over the main engine
position and the other is over the generator position. No additional reinforcement is needed to
lift the engine or generator other than your lifting hoists. You’ll see these in the pictures
This is arguably the strongest built boat you will find from the main cabin roof structure to the
decks to the hull, it’s purposefully overbuilt for trans-oceanic safety. ** Constructed / approved
for Ocean going unrestricted.
In the pictures, you’ll also see a fantastic manually lowering/raising ‘dive & swim’ platform! A
brilliant system that won’t add to power usage. Other vessels in your anchorage will be jealous
of this great system indeed!
Adding to the impressive overall hull safety of Alacrity is a series of new upgrades /
improvements you will appreciate.
New within the past 10 months:
New Eno stove/oven installed January 2023
New Isotherm Galley refrigerator installed January 2023
Main Freezer in Aft Cabin under the bunk surface fully serviced and now dialled in for its ‘sweet
spot’ of operation. Since the tweaking of the freezer system, power consumption has been
reduced by 65 - 70%..
New 8 battery ‘house bank’ of 900 am hours installed
New 12 volt generator start battery installed
Nearly 1 KW of solar panels & Solar control installed. Yup, sunny days = ZERO generator time
even with the main freezer unit running in addition to the galley fridge system.
All overhead hatches improved or repaired as needed to ensure good airflow. All hatches have
full bug screen coverings you can toss over them as needed for ‘mosquito free comfort’.
All water filters replaced with new.
New, unopened water maker membrane is still in its box waiting for you.
All mooring lines, new
All fenders, new
4 Man Life raft, new, installed Starboard side aft.
4 New life vests, still in the plastic bags
To sum it all up, this is one strong, safe, open ocean capable sailing vessel just waiting for her
next adventure! Will it be you??
