1989 Custom Britton Chance Sloop 1989/2016Windstar was built by Merrifield Roberts in Bristol RI in 1988-89. She was designed by America’s Cup winner Britton Chance as a fast 55 foot center cockpit passage maker. She was one of the first boats to use a high aspect rig with swept back spreaders and a self tacking jib and full batten mainsail. Built in fiberglass and foam the hull is super rigid. She sports a shoal draft wing keel modeled after Stars and Stripes 87’. Her massive deck saloon style windows give the yacht amazing light and visibility at sea. Her entire interior is cored to save weight. Her launch weight was just 30,000 pounds.
In 2016 she underwent a wild restoration by the Crocs shoes founder. She received new reconfigured interior, new aft cockpit with doors, new wiring, new sparcraft mast boom and rigging, new electronics, two new hvac units, new water maker, new awlgrip paint job hull and deck, fully serviced engine and genset. Her refit was just shy of 1 million in North Carolina.
From 2019 till present she has cruised Mexico and California waters. Her third owner is moving up to a larger yacht so she spared no expense and just purchased a new set of Quantum Sails and two new dodgers. She was just hauled in January 2022 at KKMI.
Windstar had done over 50,000 miles of cruising mostly in the Caribbean under her first owner of 30 years. Her unique design always stands out. She’s fast and easy to single hand. Power winches with and easy self tacking jib and bat car mainsail with stack pack.
She has two Queen bunks aft in master stateroom with bath and separate shower. A v berth in the bow with head and separate shower. A mid cabin has two additional pilot berths. Extra large engine room with amazing access from above or inside boat. Hydraulic steering and autopilot. She has a carbon code zero and Asymmetrical spinnaker.
2400 hours on engine since major service was performed
Possible trades considered for Hatteras or like vessel.
