SUNSHINE is a true New England-built classic sailing yacht. With its graceful fine ends and beautiful proportions, this Sea Sprite 34 was one of the final designs by famous American naval architect Alfred Edward "Bill" Luders, Jr. – who is also well known for designing the outstanding 44-foot Naval Academy yawls and for several 12-metre yachts, including American Eagle. The Sea Sprite 34 was featured in the “Best Boats” book by Ferenc Máté.
SUNSHINE is a special example of the Sea Sprite 34. She is one of the last Sea Sprite hulls built by C. E. Ryder in Bristol, Rhode Island (also famous for building the Southern Cross sailing voyagers). Her interior was “better-than-factory” professionally finished by the expert craftsmen at Cherubini Yachts (famous for building their 48-foot Cherubini Schooners). Her equipment list all reads as the best of everything. Her Yanmar 3GMF is possibly the best, most-reliable small diesel engine ever built. Her tall, keel-stepped mast, her boom, and all of her standing rigging were built and installed by Hall Spars (of America’s Cup fame) … North Sails … Lewmar winches … Harken roller furler … Edson steering pedestal … Garmin GPS chartplotter … etc.
With her full-keel, heavy displacement Aristo Blue hull, SUNSHINE was built to smoothly cut through the waves and cross oceans with a strong, sea-kindly motion. She has, however, spent her entire life as a family cruiser on the Chesapeake Bay. SUNSHINE is ready for her next adventure!

CONSTRUCTION The full keel hull is cored with Airex semi-rigid foam, sandwiched between inner and outer hulls of hand laid fiberglass roving. The Airex core provides tremendous rigidity and resiliency with excellent sound and thermal insulation. This method of construction is used by only a few custom and semi-custom boat builders. Unlike other coring materials, Airex cores will not absorb or transmit moisture. Solid, cast lead ballast is bonded inside of the hull (no keel bolts). The deck is thru-bolted to the hull. All bulkheads are glassed directly to the hull and deck on both sides for maximum strength. Contrasting non-skid surfaces are molded into the decks.
