Description
The Ted Irwin-designed Irwin 38 is a classic center cockpit sailboat that makes a great platform for anything from cruising to local day sailing or living aboard, and Halcyon is a beautiful, well maintained example of the design. Note she has an incredible amount of space for a 38' boat--the layout allows two people to move around without the "excuse-me-a-minute" sort of existence common on 1980s sailboats of this size, and the center cockpit design offers a "back porch" topsides aft of the cockpit.
Halcyon was surveyed for insurance purposes in 2024 at which time the surveyor noted, "This vessel has been rebuilt stem to stern with first class quality engine, standing rigging, hatches, electrical components, tankage and plumbing a hugely extensive list."
Note barely 100 hours clocked on new 57 hp Yanmar diesel installed in 2019 (this one project cost well over half the asking price of the boat!), new batteries (2022), new mainsail, deck hatches and electrical panel (2018), renewed standing rigging, electrical systems, plumbing, thru hulls and port holes (2016), etc etc etc--with almost $175,000 spent on upgrades and improvements since 2016, she really needs to be seen to be appreciated!
Also note she's very competitively priced by a motivated owner--similar to the others on the market that have original engines!
