The Cal 39 is well known and long established as a fast performance cruiser that combines comfortable living accommodations with a race-winning hull design from the desk of C. William Lapworth. CARA DONNA has been sailed and cared for by knowlegeable and dedicated owners and has had many upgrades, including an Awlgrip paint job, a complete engine re-build, improvements to the electrical system, and new sails. Whether you are a racer, cruiser or looking for a live-aboard vessel, CARA DONNA is an exceptional value at the asking price. Call today with any questions or to set up an appointment to see her! She is in the water now, rigged up and ready to sail away!
The cockpit on CARA DONNA is large enough to seat six adults comfortably on a full set of cockpit cushions and is shielded from the wind and sun by a dodger and Bimini. The previous owner had the traveller moved from the cabin top to the forward part of the cockpit to make the boat easier to sail single-handed. There is good access to the water via a swim ladder attached to the transom. Down below, the main salon has a spacious, airy feel thanks to 6'3" head room and multiple opening ports. There are two long settees that can serve as berths and collapsible dining table. To port is a large navigation table with shelves for instruments and storage. To starboard and aft is the galley, featuring a double stainless steel sink, hot/cold pressure water, a three-burner propane oven/stove, a 12v electric top-loading refrigerator and ample counter and storage space. Aft and to port is the private aft stateroom with large double berth, a hanging closet and cabinets and also a sink with hot/cold pressure water, and a door to seal it off from the main salon. Forward and to port is the head, containing a Groco manual marine toilet, stainless steel sink with hot/cold pressure water and a hand-held shower, along with cabinets for storage. Up forward is a V-berth that easily accommodates two adults and has closets and cabinets for storage.
The Cal 39 has a great reputation amongst sailors as a very capable racer/cruiser. (CARA DONNA placed first in the Around-The-Cape Race with the previous owner.) The bottom was stripped and barrier coated and the topsides awlgripped and is in excellent condition. The mast was originally painted and could be repainted or taken down to bare aluminum for cosmetic reasons. The standing rigging is in good condition, including a newer Harken furler. The accommodations below are spacious and well-laid out for cruising and contains beautiful woodwork that you won't find on modern production boats. All interior cushions and cockpit cushions are in excellent condition. The vinyl cloth headliner in the main salon is on the verge of needing attention or replacement, depending on the preference of a new owner. Overall, CARA DONNA is an EXCELLENT value for the price and a chance to acquire a great sailboat that has many years of life left in her, and will get you to your favorite cruising destinations faster and in more comfort than many brand new sailboats the same size.
