Being an icon isn’t just a question of image, style or the ability to innovate. It is all this and then just a little bit more. It means being chosen by the market as a must-have product, one that stays true to its identity over time and continues to amaze with its high performance and sophisticated design.

In the category of yachts around 65 feet, the Azimut Fly range epitomizes all the above, with more than 300 Azimut 62 and 64’s sold around the world since 2002.

This model, which premiered during the Düsseldorf International Boat Show in january 2016, perfectly incorporates the brand’s finest ingredients, starting from the exterior profile. In keeping with the finest tradition at Azimut, this model remains graceful and sporty, but offers more volume and surface area.

The obvious starting point is the flybridge, the largest in its category, with three different areas for entertaining. Next comes the four-cabin layout, offering outstanding liveability, and the new bar area positioned to the fore of the galley, which is ideal for breakfast or for accompanying the pilot during navigation.

The boat’s hi-tech soul features solutions inspired by the world of home automation and the automotive sector, but based on parameters defined by naval engineering experts that interpret the needs of the recreational craft segment. This is why carbon has been used for the first time to enhance onboard comfort, allowing the volume to be increased while maintaining excellent dynamic stability.

Creativity is also reflected in the interior design, every inch of which reveals its Italian heritage.

A HI-TECH HEART
All you need at the helm of Azimut’s latest yacht is a finger. The technological feather in this craft’s cap is its electronic power steering system, the first to be installed on a boat in this class anywhere in the world, with control functions that can be personalised by the owner, who can regulate wheel turns and steering effort according to speed and piloting style. The result is comparable to the sensation of driving a top of the range sports car.

The continuous research that drives the introduction of innovative solutions and state-of-the-art construction techniques more quickly than the market average, proves once again to be a winning factor.

The use of pure carbon fibre is a construction choice that allows volumes and surfaces to be increased in size while keeping the same weight, therefore maintaining excellent levels of dynamic stability. On the Azimut 66, this material is used to laminate the radar arch, hard top, upper forward part of the flybridge and foredeck.

The integrated Raymarine monitoring system has been customized in order to provide interfaces with as many onboard systems as possible: from the engines data to the alarms and bilge pumps, from tank levels and discharge pumps to engine room ventilation, up to the sound system and the air-conditioning regulation. Its functions can be accessed from both helm stations and remotely by tablet.

Other solutions borrowed from home automation include, on one hand, the possibility of adding more privacy between the galley and the living area, with a crystal frosting divider that can be obscured electrically, and on the other lighting controls, with three pre-set options to create the desired mood lighting environment.

NOW ON BOARD, THE LATEST TRENDS FROM MILAN’S SALONE DEL MOBILE FURNITURE SHOW
The latest trends from Milan’s Salone del Mobile furniture show have been taken on board, inspiring the furnishing and décor in a style that reflects an exquisitely Italian sense of history, heritage and culture. Examples are the heat-treated oak, elegant figured sycamore and highly prized maple, enhanced with an ultra-glossy varnish in the finest tradition of Italian handcraftsmanship. The process of decolouration and bath dyeing takes no less than three weeks, with a result that is extremely strong and aesthetically pleasing. Lighting plays a fundamental role in enhancing the colour shades of the wood used and the contrasts between the various materials, with dimmable LED strips hidden behind the curtains.

For those who prefer their interiors to be in lighter colour shades, there is also a version made primarily from light decapé oak wood combined with ultra-glossy ebony inlays.

Turning to the living areas, the main deck contains the salon, which features two roomy counterfacing sofas, large side windows and a 55-inch TV with hi-lo mechanism.

The yacht’s glassware is stored in a decorative backlit cabinet in the living area, while the illuminated wine cooler dominates the bar area as you pass through to the lower deck. The galley, designed to make the most of the space available, looks out over the dining area.

The lower deck of the Azimut 66 contains the full beam master cabin with its large ensuite bathroom, the VIP cabin and two twin-berth cabins with enlarged portholes, one with bunk berths, and three bathrooms, all with separate showers. The berths all have new plant-sourced memory foam mattresses.
The suite in the centre of the yacht has full-glass windows with no struts and the owner can choose between a vanity area or a chest of drawers to complement the wardrobes.
Owners can choose between Roman blinds and wooden Venetian blinds.

The VIP cabin located in the bow has large windows and offers plenty of storage space, with two slim wardrobes, wall units and more storage space under the bed.

The crew cabin with two berths laid out in an L-shape and separated head can be reached from the transom hatch.

Moving to the yacht’s exterior, the most striking feature of Azimut 66 is unquestionably the 28 m2 flybridge, the largest in its category. This space is divided into three separate areas, offering the owner, and guests total freedom to enjoy the outdoor life until late in the evening.

Next to the helm is a dinette that can be turned into a sunbathing area. In the centre, opposite the wet bar, is the dining area with a table for up to eight guests, while the layout of the stern area can be customised with sofas and sunbathing areas, inspired once again by the latest home design trends. The lounge area can also be fitted with a second unit containing a double barbecue and ceramic hotplates for outdoor use.

Moving forward to the sun-lounging area, which is traditionally large thanks to the trapezoid bow that is a distinctive feature of Stefano Righini’s design concept, we find a large sunbathing area with C-shaped bench seats, to which a bimini top with an automatic opening mechanism can be added.

The hydraulic swim platform at the stern can be used to store a tender of up to 325 cm in length.

THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION
Azimut 66 Fly holds Class A CE certification for unlimited navigation and meets the strictest NMMA requirements for safety on board. Forward visibility of 50 m is also guaranteed from the main helm station.
More than 90% of the fibreglass parts are infusion laminated, with variable layouts depending on the fibre used, while 100% of exterior fibreglass surfaces are made with DSM vinyl ester resin, offering maximum protection from the elements.
Bulkhead passthrough fittings are totally watertight, using the Geaquello sealing system for electric cables and threaded connections for hydraulic tubing. Pipe fittings below the water line are made entirely from bronze.
During design work there was a special focus on reducing vibration, involving the introduction of specific damping solutions.
Furniture frames are made entirely from okoume plywood, certified for use at sea.
The outdoor upholstery is made from open-cell Dry-Fil material for good drainage.
The deckhouse windows are treated with reflective material and curved to give continuity to the yacht’s profile.

PERFORMANCE: QUITE SIMPLY IMPECCABLE
