Captivatingly good looking Castro design built in the UK and totally uprated for serious bluewater cruising. This Gunfleet 58 offers slippery sailing and has a centreboard and twin rudders. The hull is laid by hand into a female mould tool generated using a computer controlled 5- axis machine for extreme accuracy and finish. Structural composite engineering is by SP High Modulus (Gurit).
Using Finite Element Analysis as a practical design tool, SP have optimised the strength and weight of the Gunfleet 58’ to optimise performance and structural integrity.
The lamination system used provides exceptional UV and weathering properties. It uses Iso gelcoat chosen for its superb gloss retention and proven toughness. The hull has a white gelcoat finish and a Vinylester skin coat resin system for optimum water resistance. Isophthalic resins are used thereafter and through the core stage, with an Orthophthalic resin used on the inner skin for superior secondary bonding strength. All resins and glass fibres used are Lloyds approved.
The hull shell laminate is based on a high performance blend of multidirectional glass and ‘stitched’ bi-directional fabrics with Kevlar cloth on the centreline forward of the keel for additional strength. The hull topsides above the waterline are cored with a quality DIAB ProBalsa for strength, rigidity, impact resistance and insulation. The DIAB ProBalsa is approved by all major classification societies including Lloyds, ABS and DNV.
The hull below the waterline is a solid laminate, heavily reinforced in the area of the keel and mast with carbon fibre unidirectional laminate. The forward underwater area is augmented with Kevlar for added impact strength.
The entire hull is further reinforced by the structural grid moulding. This structural grid moulding is a composite E glass and carbon fibre integral support structure, moulded and bonded into the hull to increase longitudinal and transverse hull stiffness and to incorporate strengthening for all dynamically loaded high stress areas including keel support, mast loads and chainplate anchor points. The structural grid also incorporates the engine beds and the integral moulded fuel and water tanks for increased overall stiffness, and to provide maximum tank capacity.

LATOBE has been antifouled with anodes checked and replaced as needed annually.
The deck structure has been engineered by SP-High Modulus and includes a series of complex curves generated by 5-axis computer generated tooling. This shape enhances the vessel’s styling and also contributes towards strength and rigidity.
The lamination system used has been chosen to provide exceptional UV, weathering and water resistance properties. The deck uses a white Iso gelcoat chosen for its superb gloss retention and proven toughness. The laminate is hand laid featuring a combination of solid laminate, using Lloyds approved resins. It has a cored laminate using DIAB ProBalsa, with high load areas around the mast, winches and track attachments further reinforced with ‘C’ Plates and solid core materials.
The working surfaces of the deck and cockpit are laid teak with non-skid paint, in certain other areas for additional security.
The deck edge/bulwark has a GRP ‘rolled edge’ finish.
The cockpit seats, helmsperson’s seats and cockpit floor are all laid teak. The helm seats have GRP and stainless steel backrests. Under the port helm seat is a top access storage locker, under the starboard seat, accessed from the aft deck, is a further large stowage locker, which houses the liferaft. This locker is fitted with a U bolt for the liferaft tether line.
Finishes and Detailing:
Hull and deck are in white gelcoat. The hull has a single boot top and cavita line in a Light Charcoal Grey. The hull below waterline has an epoxy primer coat. The side decks, fore deck, aft deck, cockpit seats, helm seat, cockpit floor and the 3 transom steps are all trimmed with laid teak.
The engine room is sealed and fully lined with 35mm thick composite sound deadening foam comprising two layers of polyurethane foam, with a 4mm ‘mass’ layer for acoustic insulation. The engine room is accessible from the galley and aft guest cabin for normal maintenance. The hanging lockers in the owner’s stateroom and forward cabin have cedar panels.
Keel & Rudder:
The keel comprises a cast lead centre-board housing of approximately 8,880kg (19,401lbs) bolted to a GRP stub. The GRP stub has a wide footprint to for the optimum layout and strength of the bolting arrangement. The stub is an integral part of the hull moulding and also creates a large bilge sump that concentrates any bilge water into one area.
The lead is cast with 3% antimonial hardening and is bolted to the GRP stub with stainless steel keel bolts. The centreboard is in cast iron of approximately 507kg (1,11lb) and pivots on a stainless steel pin system that may be removed for maintenance.
The centreboard is push button controlled via a hydraulic ram driven by an electric pump. There is a centreboard position indicator and a manual override release. Last inspected March 2020.
The twin rudders have rudder stocks fabricated from stainless steel with welded tangs. The rudder blades are composite fibreglass with hand-laid E glass, stitched fabrics and unidirectional rovings. The blades are ‘over-glassed’ around the leading edge for added strength and are sealed, faired and foam filled. The rudders have self-aligning upper and lower bearings. There is also an emergency tiller system. The rudders and rudder bearings were inspected in 2020.
Engine & Gearboxes:
Volvo Penta D3 5 cylinder, 4 stroke marine diesel of 150 hp 110 kW.
Brunton Varifold 4 bladed folding propeller through a conventional shaft drive. Prop One is applied to propeller and shaft annually.
Ambassador 2-bladed rope cutter.
Aquadrive self-aligning bearing system for a smooth and quiet installation.
Tides Marine lip-seal shaft seal that needs little maintenance and is pre-installed with spare seals.
Fuel filtration is via a Racor 500 primary filter, with a water sensing alarm linked to a readout near the main switch panel.
Engine instrumentation includes a rev counter, engine hours meter and audible alarms for oil pressure, and engine temperature.
A single lever type control for throttle and gearshift is fitted to the port pedestal within easy reach of the helm.
The engine room has a ducted cooling and ventilation system via 2 electric extractor fans with a remote switch and automatic cut-off timer.

The exhaust discharges through the underside of the stern. The exhaust has a water lock muffler and a water separator to minimize exhaust noise (especially in the Owner’s cabin) and to reduce backpressure and increase engine longevity.
Maintenance & Performance:
The main engine has been serviced annually in accordance with the Manufacturers’ recommendations.
Engine hours: c. 1,484 @ 09-06-2020. The engine oil and filters have been changed a every 150 engine hours by Volvo Penta authorized agents.
Propulsion & Steering:
The Flightdeck® system incorporates twin wrap-around wheels mounted in front of the pedestals so the helm controls and instruments are unobstructed by the spokes. The wheels are stainless steel with leather rim covers.
The pedestal system has lecturns designed to take a 12” chart-plotter/radar screen. Each pedestal also has a steering compass and the sail handling controls are on the starboard pedestal.
Emergency tiller system with dedicated lazarette stowage.
The steering system is a Lewmar ‘Mamba’ torque rod arrangement. Together with the semi-balanced rudder blades LATOBE’s steering system is both light and responsive. It was serviced February 2019.

The fuel and water tanks are moulded GRP, laminated into the hull as part of the structural grid.
Fuel capacity is approximately 1,500 litres (330 imp gallons).
Water capacity approximately 1,000 litres (220 imp gallons).
Both tanks have on-deck fillers, baffles, breathers, and inspection hatch.
The water tank is coated with an approved food grade gelcoat. The fuel tank is coated with an approved diesel resistant gelcoat and is fitted with a takeoff plate with labeled valves for supply and return lines.
Water and fuel tank sensors are connected to the yacht’s CZone monitoring system for contents readouts. The CZone system can be set to switch off the water pressure pump before the tank runs dry to avoid pump damage.
GRP black water holding tanks with approximately 96 litres (21 imp gallons) capacity are fitted in both the forward and aft heads areas. These tanks are plumbed so they may be discharged overboard by gravity or by using a dockside pump out. They are fitted with sensors to enable remote monitoring via CZone. The monitoring system can also control the operation of the toilet to avoid over filling the holding tank.

Comfortable and luxurious sleeping for 8 in 2 double cabins with 2 spacious upper and lower berth cabins and a generous main saloon. There is the option of 2 sea berths in the main saloon for use at sea and lee cloths are fitted for that purpose both in the saloon and on all berths throughout the ship.
Joinery is executed in Maple with matching hardwood trim.
Teak timber sole boards laid in a custom plank-effect design. The forward and aft cabins are carpeted. Cabin doors have ‘3 panel’ Oak veneer arrangement.
All locker doors are fitted with soft-closing concealed hinges. The lockers are fully lined with joined timber panels and are opened and secured via flush push button latches with a chrome finish.
All drawers are equipped with ‘BLUM’ soft-closing ‘glide slide’ mechanisms and are also opened and secured via flush push button latches with a chrome finish.
Main cabin doors are fitted with anti-rattle mortice door locks and have handles with a chrome finish. WC and shower area access doors also have privacy locks. Architraves to all cabin doors are fitted with rubber foam seals for a soft closing effect and for the reduction of noise transmission between cabins.
Overhead linings are vinyl covered marine ply panels in white as with the interior GRP liners. The lining system is removable for access to fastenings and installed equipment.
Main accommodation lighting is recessed into the overhead panels. In many LED strip lights are fitted see lighting seciont. All berths are fitted with reading lights.
There is courtesy lighting within the main accommodation sole steps and this, together with other lighting, is able to be switched or dimmed using the CZone digital switching system.
There are grab rails and handholds placed around the interior to provide safety.
Berths and sofa are made from a combination of firm and soft, fire retardant, foam for optimum.
Sofas are divided into manageable sizes to facilitate access to stowage areas underneath. Lee cloths are provided for 8 berths with lanyards and attachment points enabling them to be used at sea. The owner’s double berth and forward cabin double berth are divided on the centreline to effectively allow the option of creating single berths. (All upholstery professionally cleaned May 2020).
All timber, including hidden joinery and lining panels, is sealed and coated with a clear varnish. All visible bilge areas are finished with Flow-coat.

Windows and Hatches:
Deck saloon windows are in toughened grey tinted glass. The 4 side panels are directbonded to the GRP structure. Set into each of these glass panels above the galley and the aft guest cabin, is a Lewmar opening port.
To the forward end of the deck saloon there are 3 glazed panels. The central panel is fixed and direct-bonded, and the port and starboard panels have concealed frames and are opening with gas strut supports.
The cockpit well has 3 Lewmar opening ports – one to the galley, one to the aft shower (with a ‘privacy’ finish) and one to the aft guest cabin.
The owner’s stateroom has 2 Lewmar flush mounted opening hatches.
On the forward coachroof there are 2 Lewmar flush hatches, one above the forward guest cabin, the other above the forward WC area. Above the forward cabin there is an additional Lewmar flush hatch adjacent to a similar sized fixed acrylic skylight panel.
Set into the hull are a total of 19 hull windows – 4 large fixed glass panoramic hull windows in the saloon, 6 fixed hull windows in the owners’ aft cabin, 6 fixed hull windows in the forward cabin, one in the forward guest cabin and one in each of the WC areas. All deck saloon windows are fitted with Oceanair Skysol pleated blinds. Overhead hatches are fitted with Oceanair Skyscreens with combined blinds and bug screens. All hull windows and port lights fitted into the GRP structure have Oceanair blinds. (All blinds professionally cleaned May 2020).
Description of layout:
S spacious forward VIP cabin with a large central ‘island’ double berth with 2 large storage drawers beneath. The cabin has port and starboard hanging lockers as well as hull side bin lockers, shelves and a mirror.
There are 6 hull windows, together with an opening overhead hatch, skylight panel and dorade ventilation,
The forward WC/Shower compartment has a large bowl electric freshwater flush toilet Jabsco electric and a ceramic washbasin with a single lever mixer tap. The counter top is Corian and the floors are laid with a patterned vinyl. Outboard of the counter is a cupboard with mirrored doors and a hull window.
There is an an overhead hatch and a separate deck dorade. Aft is a separate shower stall with mixer taps and adjustable shower head. A towel rail, toilet roll holder, soap dispenser and tooth brush holder/tumbler are also fitted.
This compartment has 2 doors enabling its use as a day heads/shared with the forward guest cabin with access from the passage way or, with this door closed, as an en-suite for the forward cabin.
Forward Guest Cabin:
To port, opposite the forward WC/Shower area with twin bunk berths and a hull-side hull window. There is an overhead hatch and a separate deck dorade. At the forward end is a hanging locker with stowage beneath and at the aft end there is a locker unit and a bulkhead mounted mirror.
The companionway access from saloon to cockpit has laminated angled treads. There are 2 stainless steel handrails running vertically on each side of the stairs with padded coverings. The companionway hinges up, assisted by gas struts, for easy access to a machinery area and storage space.
The port and starboard sofas each seat at least 4 people and can be used as sea berths.
The saloon table has a fixed port-side leaf arrangement atop a large pedestal locker. The starboard leaf folds over from portside section to create one large table for at least 8 table settings.
The table pedestal locker has bottle stowage with an automatic illumination light.

The chart table is forward facing chart table with space for half-folded Admiralty charts, and has a navigator’s seat. The chart table lid is hinged and has a positive stay. There is navigator’s flexi light. At the forward end of the chart table area there is a sculptured console for navigational instrumentation.
There are large counter surfaces inboard and outboard. These counters in Corian. Each counter is fitted with up-stands and radiused corners. There is a sweep-in access panel to the fully installed waste bin and also drain grooves for dish draining.
There is a large eye-level locker inboard of the sinks crockery stowage for 8 place settings. There is also a fitted microwave oven.
At the aft inboard end of the galley is a tall locker with the top half dedicated to provision stowage with the washer/dryer beneath.
Athwartships, ventilation is provided by opening ports on each side of the galley.
There is 2.03 m (6’8”) large centreline double berth with a storage drawer beneath. There is a hanging locker and upholstered sofa on the port side and a forward facing vanity unit and mirror with a matching seat on the starboard side. At the forward end of this cabin is a shallow locker with recess above for the flatscreen 32” Samsung TV.
There are shelves inboard of the hull windows. There is 2 way switching of the cabin overhead lights and individual reading lights either side and at the head of the double berth.
Remote control operated electric blinds.
There are 3 hull windows on each side of the stateroom and 2 opening hatches. Forward and to starboard of this owner’s cabin there is an en-suite shower and WC area. The WC is fitted with a large bowl Jabsco electric fresh-water flush toilet and a ceramic washbasin with a single lever mixer tap. The counter top is Corian and the floors in patterned vinyl. Outboard of the counter is a cupboard with a mirrored door and a hull window. A separate shower stall is fitted featuring a seat and an adjustable shower head set all behind an acrylic hinged door. A towel rail, toilet roll holder, soap dispenser and toothbrush tumbler/holder are also fitted.
Aft Guest Cabin:
Aft of the chart table area, to starboard, is access to the aft guest cabin. This cabin has twin bunk berths and a storage locker at its aft end. Inboard of the berths there is a large sound insulated door that gives access to the engine room. Ventilation to the cabin is via an opening port to the cockpit and an opening port set into the deck saloon/coach roof glazed side panel.

There is a stainless steel stemhead and bowsprit arrangement, which incorporates twin rollers for the launching and retrieving of the anchor. There is also a forward attachment point for a cruising chute or asymmetric spinnaker.

11/12th type fractional sloop by Selden with a 135% overlapping furling genoa. The mast and boom are in alloy with a white painted finish and with hydraulic In-Mast mainsail furling system by Selden with hydraulic reversing outhaul, complete with emergency over-ride system.
The mast is a triple spreader keel stepped rig, with a custom stainless steel chainplates. The spreaders have a slight aft-sweep to facilitate an optimum sheeting angle for upwind sailing and for a standing rigging configuration that negates the need for a baby stay.

General on deck:
The companionway has an Acrylic hatch which slides away under the deck saloon roof. The vertical companionway washboard is also acrylic, and slides down vertically into its own stowage trough. The sliding hatch and washboard have a locking mechanism that can be operated from above or below deck. The area alongside the sliding hatch is fitted with a pair of stainless steel grab rails and acrylic cut-out mug holder recesses. 2 further drinks holders are located on the side of each of the steering pedestals.
The stern deck has full-width large lazarette with a lockable, hinged teak-laid lid supported by gas struts.
The adjacent deck area has a drained gas locker, with teak laid lid, for the stowage of two 6kg Propane gas bottles.
There a hot and cold deck shower.
The transom has a closed-in stern with a power operated hinged-down, teak laid, bathing platform. Access to the platform is provided via a stainless steel ladder system with teak treads, integrated into the aft pushpit. With the platform down, integrally moulded GRP lockers, that maintain the watertight integrity of the main lazarette, are revealed for the aft shower and dive/swim gear stowage. The bathing and boarding ladder is a removable unit with high-reach hand holds and a tender post.
Ahead of the pedestals and aft of the companionway, there is a fixed cockpit table with two hinged leaves and a central refrigerated cold box with two top opening lids which is powered by a 24VDC keel cooled Frigoboat compressor The table top and leaves are gloss varnished teak and has a padded protection cover with top access flaps.
On the foredeck there is access to a large dedicated sail and general storage locker via a teak laid hatch. This locker also has sealed access door to the separate chain locker.

Anchoring & Mooring Equipment:
Stainless steel stemhead with twin rollers for the launching and retrieving the anchor.
Lewmar V4 x 2000 watt (V5) electric anchor windlass with gypsy and warping drum. The windlass has adjacent foot switches. It is supplied with 100 metres of galvanised calibrated 12mm anchor chain, which stows in a draining chain locker in the bow. It has a Lewmar remote control and chain counter, new 2020.

CQR 55kg anchor is supplied and stows in the stem head fitting when not in use.
8 x 360mm stainless steel folding ‘wing’ mooring cleats are through-bolted at bow and stern and mid-ships. Each cleat has its own deck-edge stainless steel chafe strip. (2 new added to stern 2019).
