This Hunter e36 Hybrid  is in a class by itself compared with other e36's. Not only does the Elco Electric Engine make it a huge standout, but this yacht has a long list of options that include the “Performance Package.” This special order package consists of a “flat top,” full battened main sail which has 211 square feet more sail area than the stock sail and a 120 percent jib instead of a 110%.

Take a look at the video of the owner telling of the first time they went to Two Harbors in Catalina Island. The Lydie was treated like a Rock Star.

The owners have loved The Lydie, and still do. But like many boaters, it's time to get a bigger boat.

Hunter H-36 “Hybrid” powered by Elco

Warren Luhrs, Founder of Hunter Marine and a world class sailor says, “The Elco E Power hybrid system is a game changer. Sailboat propulsion has changed forever.” Hunter and Elco developed the boat as part of a shared commitment to green technology solutions and innovation that improves the overall sailing experience. The Elco E Power hybrid system offers sailors more than just environmentally conscious cruising. The AC motor lowers motor operating and maintenance costs, eliminates the carbon monoxide and fumes present with traditional motors, runs cooler, quieter and weighs far less than gas or diesel motors. In addition, AC electric motors offer an advantage over DC models due to the lack of brushes and moving parts, which require regular maintenance and can wear out. The EP4000 has only one moving part and is completely sealed, making it highly water resistant to guard against moisture damage or corrosion.

From an economic point of view the electric hybrid is certainly appealing, with potential range and cost-per-mile dramatically less than those of a comparable diesel. Tested on a 36-foot sailboat with a hybrid engine and AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries, you see numbers that start to look very attractive compared to a 20 HP diesel. Obviously a number of factors including wind, tides, speed, propeller types, and battery sizes come into play, but the overall comparison is startling: A hybrid with 50 gallons of fuel for the generator can travel for 1,108 nautical miles at a cost of $0.07 per mile, while the diesel inboard can only make it 382 nautical miles on the same amount of fuel, for a cost per mile of $0.59.
