"RIKKI" was a custom build for one of New Zealand's most experienced offshore racers.
Working in conjunction with Reichel-Pugh Yacht Design, "RIKKI" was a boat that was designed to perform on the IRC rating platform and Its fair to say she really excels on the offshore platform and has all the bells and whistles to compete in the toughest of ocean races out there today.

As with most modern, top end race boats, the rig and boom package are from Southern Spars.
A two-spreader, high modulus, TPT (Thin Ply Technology) tube, with carbon spreaders and rod standing rigging, ensures maximum weight has been saved aloft, without compromising stiffness and strength.
With the addition of the running backstay deflector system, it also ensures minimum head stay sag and thus maximum upwind efficiency, alongside weight saving has been achieved with this top spec package.
The rig and boom are properly configured for offshore racing, with mainsail cars and up to three reefs available with the boom sheave configuration.
A 2:1 mainsail halyard also simplifies sail handling when offshore and utilises the highest quality, low-stretch ropes.
An external Jib halyard lock is installed, again for easy maintenance and is used in conjunction with a jib cunningham system located in the fore stay well, with control lead back to the cockpit.

"RIKKI" has every safety item required for Category One Offshore Racing, including 2 x RFD liferafts, Sailor Satellite Phone and 2 x EPIRB's to name but few.....
She has everything required to compete in Ocean races such as Sydney-Hobart, Fastnet, Transatlantic and Middle Sea races.
Although almost every aspect of RIKKI is designed for performance, the ability to sail in relative comfort for the long distance races is invaluable and so she benefits from a very well thought out interior arrangement, that utilises the boats structural arrangement with maximum efficiency.
Below decks the following is offered;
- 4 x adjustable berths per side (8 in total), with the ability to add two, possibly 4 berths further aft.
- Designated Nav station positioned below the cockpit sole, with full seated head height.
- Centrally located engine bay, for improved weight distribution and accessibility. This also works as a very usable work station and leverage point from the middle of the boat.
- Galley offset on the port side, just behind the mast bulkhead, with large SS sink and 2-burner gimbling gas cooker. Gas canister and 2 x regulators located in locker on deck.
- 4 x storage cupboard behind galley area, with cool box located next to sink.
- Separate WC and sink located fwd of mast bulk head and offset to port.
- Crew storage compartment located adjacent to WC.
- 2 x fuel tanks under companionway steps, with plenty of room for expansion if required.
- Composite, lightweight floorboard, using a wood veneer for both aesthetic and performance benefits.
- Cruising and racing squabs throughout, offering a cruising and racing feel for both occasions.
- 12v LED lighting system throughout the boat.
Custom built "Doghouse" included with sale, which offers great companionway shelter and is essential in heavy offshore weather.
Harken systems have been installed throughout the majority of the boat, with particular time and expenditure given to the pedestal and winch system.
The Harken pedestal system links to the 3-speed primary winches, via carbon shafts and benefits from a hyper-drive box, which turns the system into a 6-speed configuration, thus increasing line speed, but also ratios for high load work offshore or short-handed.

Spinlock clutches are used throughout the cabin top for all halyard control, but also installed for spinnaker and main sheet handling, thus freeing up an additional winch for those trickier offshore manoeuvres.

Another exceptional feature of "RIKKI" is her lifting propeller system, that ensures minimal underwater drag and a greatly reduced chance of catching weed on those offshore races. This in controlled by a very user friendly block and tackle system, which couples to a universal joint off the back of the gearbox.
The system is housed in a PVC watertight box, with access for servicing.
The boat runs off Lithium Ion, lightweight batteries, which is just another attribute to this no expense spares boat.
This runs a B&G 3000 system.
4 x 20/20 mast mounted displays.

RIKKI has twin steering wheel configuration, with a large carbon composite quadrant, that is easily accessible below decks.
The steering pedestals are also fitted with grip bars for easy moving around the cockpit and there is also a centre line granny bar, aft of the wheels for easy access to the transom section.
