Considering the many tournament-tier fishing features of the Hatteras 54 Convertible and the rave reviews she has received from design experts, journalists, and marine enthusiasts everywhere, the term "entry-level" seems inadequate. This legendary performer is renowned for her incredible strength and seaworthiness, and she draws just 4'2" thanks to deep tunnel pockets. Her large flybridge and cockpit with raised seating create excellent visibility and extra room to work the lines. A well-designed interior offers three staterooms and two heads, and combines classic (genuine wood cabinetry and accents) with the modern (state of the art system and electronics) Truly, this is a quintessential convertible from one of the worlds best builders of superior Sportfishing boats.
The Hatteras 54 Convertible is designed specifically to deliver a smooth ride while operating at high speeds. The convexity in the hull shape helps make this hull immensely strong. The slight outward curvature (viewed from keel to chine) reduces impact accelerations and contributes to an incredibly smooth head-sea ride. Traditional Hatteras double chines are incorporated into the hull design to provide the Hatteras dry ride. A slight twist in the hull bottom - better defined as a variation of deadrise with length - provides flatter sections in the aftermost portion of the hull. These sections reduce resistance, improve handling at low speeds and increase transverse stability while planing.
Access to the spacious (150 sq. feet) flybridge is gained from a ladder on the outboard port side of the cockpit. This one-piece molded bridge will delight the seasoned captain for its ergonomic layout and sheer space. The helm station with its pod console takes center stage. The ergonomically positioned steering wheel (with power steering and a rudder angle indicator) and single-lever electronic engine controls, fitted with mechanical backups and trolling valve switches, are comfortably operated seated or standing. There is plenty of room for a comprehensive suite of electronics on the angled flats.
Guest seating is provided to port on the molded fiberglass lounge with removable cushions (and storage below) and to starboard on the L-shaped bench seat. An insulated drink box is included. Whether you're behind the full enclosure or up in the tower, each offers a rich mix of fresh air, a breathtaking view and quiet surroundings to enjoy with family and friends.
The 54 is designed for serious sportfishing. The cockpit boasts 149 square feet of open space where every element and dimension has a purpose. Fishing amenities include a bait and tackle center with sink, cutting board and tackle drawers; a bait freezer; storage console with drawers, four rod holders; a removable, full sized (80-inch) in-deck fish box with macerator and an amply proportioned transom door.
This cockpit also features awesome storage. Note the cleverly designed chill box under the steps and the insulated storage bin below the flybridge ladder. In addition, storage lockers with hinged doors are located below the port and starboard cockpit coamings. Other standard features include full-length toe kicks with foot pedal access to the cabinets and seawater and freshwater washdowns.
It's no accident that Hatteras enjoys an industry reputation for quality, value and service. The Hatteras hull was designed to deliver a fast, comfortable smooth ride and excellent handling in real world sea conditions. Hatteras traditional double chines are incorporated into the the hull design to provide additional strength and to knock spray down and away from the boat. Leading edge propulsion systems use the industry's deepest tunnels to reduce draft and shaft angle, thus improving the vessel's efficiency. Deep gear ratios, large diameter shafts and multi blade propellers all work in concert to reduce vibration, increase fuel efficiency and cruise speeds, and provide constant speed in variable sea conditions.
Hatteras' solid fiberglass hulls are hand laid using a disciplined schedule of fab-mats and vinylester resins to provide excellent impact resistance throughout. Areas of high stress receive additional layers of fiberglass to ensure a lifetime of reliable service. A network of interlocking resin infused composite bulkheads and foam -core fiberglass stringers support the solid fiberglass bottom and serve as a foundation for the machinery, deck and superstructure.
The decks, superstructure, and hull sides above the waterline are cored with high density Divinycell nonabsorbent foam, creating a stiff, durable and lightweight structure. Hatteras superstructures are comprised of a single fiberglass part, eliminating unsightly caulk joints. Once complete, the superstructure is joined to the hull using self-tapping screws every three inches. The joint is then laminated internally, creating a structural bond that will stand up to the most rigorous of environments with no water intrusion or creaking.
Entering the salon on the starboard side the L-shaped settee is to port and the flat screen television is to starboard. Moving forward on the starboard side is the L- shaped dinette opposite is the galley located forward port side equipped with Sub Zero refrigeration/ freezer drawers.
