JUST BEEN AWLGRIPPED OCT 2020
Madeleine presents a clean cruising vessel that has been in private ownership most of her life not to be confused with most of the sister ships currently on offer that have spent their entire lives in charter fleets in the Med.
Constantly upgraded with ongoing maintenance has resulted in a happy vessel now looking for a new owner as the current owner has recently had a back operation that will preclude mono hull sailing for the foreseeable future.
These boats were really well built back in the day:
Research will show that the units built between 2005 and 2008 inclusive were the best Bavaria 46's built.
Solid glass below the waterline.
As far as strength of construction is concerned, besides conventional glass mats, multi-axial roving fabric was used as an additional strengthener in the laminate. The bow area and other obvious collision points are additionally reinforced with kevlar and the laminate is partially doubled in the keel area by overlapping to a minimum of 36mm.
The hull laminate, a combination stitched-biaxial and chopped-strand mat, was laid up by hand in isophthalic polyester laminating resin which is well known for it's low shrinkage and dimensionally stable properties for extreme durability. Below the waterline, it’s bulked up with two additional layers of 2mm Coremat. Above the waterline it is cored with closed-cell Airex foam.
To add strength, the hull is stiffened with an inner grid. The cast iron keel is secured with 20mm stainless steel bolts and Plexus adhesive. The deck, also cored with Airex, is bedded in polyurethane sealant on a 3¼in flange and is screwed down at 8in intervals.
