“Wind Dreamer” is a pristine, FRESH WATER boat with LOW OPERATING HOURS and continuous Pampered Care. She delivers the combination of seakeeping, safety, stability and speed coupled with the comfort, liability and value that makes Island Packet Yachts America’s Cruising Yacht Leader.
An innovative blend of live aboard comfort and practical cruising features is evidenced throughout “Wind Dreamer”, delivering what are perhaps the best accommodations of any yacht in its size range.
Island Packet yachts have long been noted for their exceptionally livable designs, and this private head adjoining the master stateroom will further that reputation. Accessed from the forward end of the master stateroom, it features a sink vanity with cabinets above and below, a deep polished oval stainless steel sink, an overhead hatch, opening ports, medicine chest, plus several lockers and two deep drawers. Extra counter space provides “captain chair” seating for the toilet, and a separate stall shower enclosure is fitted with a folding acrylic door and built-in seat.
Forecastle and Anchor Locker
Accessed through a tall door in the shower stall, the lighted forecastle provides a great spot for securing items like fenders and dock lines. An area for the bowthruster is provided and is accessed from either the forecastle, or through the removable shower seat in the forward head. The large divided anchor locker just forward of this forecastle area will easily accommodate two chain anchor rodes.
The forward owner’s suite is a true delight, with the entire beam of the yacht utilized for a grand and inviting retreat. The generously sized island berth is offset from the hull, providing easy access from both sides. The aft section of the berth-top, mounted on gas support struts, lifts to reveal a large “blanket chest”. Drawers, cabinets, storage bins and a deep hanging locker provide ample space for personal gear. A dressing seat adds further convenience, and features such as cabin fans and space for the addition of air conditioning equipment here and throughout the yacht.. Two overhead hatches, a Dorade vent and several opening ports will keep this area bright and well ventilated, as are all other areas throughout the interior.
The navigation table with swingout seat should please the most ardent navigator, and includes recessed master electrical distribution panels with numerous spare breakers and ample panel space for electronics. A storage tray is provided under the large hinged tabletop, with a locker under and outboard of the table and a chart drawer under the settee immediately forward.
The galley, immediately to the starboard side of the companionway, is easily accessible to the cockpit and the main salon, and features numerous convenience details for the cruising sailor. A generous, wrap around counter provides ample work space for food preparation while numerous drawer, lockers and laminate lined cabinets offer abundant space for provisioning and kitchenware storage. A Force 10 sealed burner LPG stove and oven, along with a standard (AC) microwave oven, deep polished stainless steel sinks, overhead light and a slide out trash receptacle all make for pleasurable time spent in the galley. The well insulated icebox features a double gasket push button lid that opens on a gas strut to reveal a divided, lighted, and electric drain pump equipped box with ample room for extra refrigerated storage on longer voyages. The slip resistant molded sole provides secure footing and easy maintenance for this busy area, and extends throughout the companionway, navigation and aft head areas as well.
This spacious, central living area is equally suited for social gatherings, off watch retreats, or gourmet dining. The hinged table may be secured against the bulkhead mounted bottle and glass rack or easily lowered to make a large dining area. An exceptional amount of interior stowage is available in the salon, as elsewhere in the yacht, due in large part to the generous tankage being centrally located below the cabin sole. This feature also keeps the considerable weights low and close to the center of the yacht to maximize stability and minimize trim changes. The starboard settee pulls out to provide a double berth.
Entered from either the main salon or through a private door in the aft cabin, the aft head, with its folding teak shower seat, wraparound vanity, oval polished sink, teak framed mirror, and bulkhead mounted shower unit with a pull around curtain provide particularly nice facilities for guests and crew. Shower drains in both heads have an electric drain pump discharging overboard, with sole drains configured to work at rest or under sail.
The aft cabin has private access from the companionway area. It features a big Pullman-style athwartship bunk, a large cedar-lined hanging locker and a generous bureau with several compartments. Two opening ports and an overhead hatch bathe the area in natural light and provide excellent ventilation.
Island Packet’s long term commitment to the cutter rig, paralleling the choice of experienced offshore cruisers and shorthanded racers worldwide, is due to its versatility, ease of use, and excellent performance over a wide range of wind and sea conditions. The 420 improves upon this highly desired sailplan with a freestanding Hoyt staysail boom, simplifying control and adding significant performance to this highly effective sail. All sails are built in the US and include Harken headsail furling systems as standard equipment to further simplify sail handling.
“Wind Dreamer” is equipped with an in-mast furling main with control lines led aft, allowing sail trim and setting/reefing activity from the comfort and security of the cockpit. Features such as self-tailing winches, color coded lines, rope clutches, traveler control lines and coaming line stowage bins with hinged covers make sailing easier and more enjoyable than ever.
The Full Foil Keel continues as the foundation of the Island Packet concept, and its design and construction provide a host of advantages to the cruising sailor: a moderate draft for access to a wider range of cruising grounds, low ballast placement for increased stability, superior protection for the rudder and propeller, integral one-piece construction for maximum strength, and a highly effective airfoil shape for windward performance. No other contemporary underbody design offers this unique combination of safety, seakeeping and performance. While designer and naval architect Bob Johnson insists his designs are, “first and foremost excellent cruising yachts,” the performance of the yachts has earned them an impressive number of victories in prestigious offshore races around the world. The 420 provides a further refinement of Island Pact’s exclusive Full Foil Keel hull design, resulting in unmatched sailing enjoyment and peace of mind for the cruising sailor.
