2020 Refit Disclosure
An extensive refit was completed by Front Street Shipyard in Belfast, Maine in 2020. The actual cost of the refit was over $201,000-
The boat is in excellent condition reflecting the high quality work of the Shipyard. It is ready for turn-key use.
Every single component below decks was replaced. Engines were removed from boat and all components disassembled, and checked. 1,000 hour tuneup done. Engines sandblasted, repainted and re-installed. New Westerbeke 5.5 kw generator installed.
Saltwater got into the bilge when the livewell drain hose became inadvertently disconnected to a level where some electrical wiring was submerged. No water got into engines, transmission, or other equipment. The owner decided to go well beyond just replacing all of the wiring. He did an extensive refit to improve the boat to a level significantly above comparable boats of the same year and more comparable to a much newer boat.
Engines/Gear Description/Performance
Engines are twin inboard Caterpillar engines that put out 300 h.p. each. This gives the 3100 Open an efficient cruise speed of 27.5 mph and an estimated range of 344 statute miles. Reported fuel consumption is 1.4 MPG and top speed of boat is 38.2mph There is a teleflex hydraulic steering system with 20" S.S. destroyer wheel. Tiara uses bronze axe head rudders and struts and Armco Aqua Met 19 S.S. prop shafts and water cooled shaft logs for true precise handling and smooth ride.
Construction Details
The 2002 Tiara 3100 Open features the upgraded hull design that includes prop pockets which improve overall performance while creating a drier and smoother ride.
The 3100 Open is constructed with a water barrier outer gelcoat layer and hand-laid fiberglass with a special formulated resin. The stringers are made of marine grade plywood and encapsulated in handlaid fiberglass and integrated into the hull. Seacocks and all underwater thru-hull fittings are made of bronze, and a hullside exhaust system is used. Six custom oval opening port lights with screens add ventilation and natural light while below deck. The 3100 features a hullside ventilation system, gelcoated boot line graphics, and recessed trim tabs for less obstruction while fishing.
The 3100 Open deck - introduced in 2001 - features softer lines around the windshield and toe rail area, a more conveniently placed anchor locker, the addition of a screen to the companionway door and a folding transom seat. The deck construction is similar to the hull, using a water barrier outer gelcoat and hand-laid fiberglass. Tiara’s custom diamond pattern non skid is used on all deck and cockpit surfaces for sure, safe footing. The custom windshield is made of welded aluminum and Solex 1/4" safety glass. And handrails, and a center ventilation section with power actuator, makes this windshield one of the best in the industry. The transition to the foredeck is easy with grab rails and a sturdy one-piece welded bow rail. Other features include: three aluminum deck hatches with screens and privacy covers, flush forward anchor locker with overboard drain, and a fiberglass molded-in bow pulpit with standard S.S. roller assembly. An optional windlass is available - the wiring is standard.
