STARR is a masterpiece of custom design and execution. The hull, decks and superstructure were created utilizing the SCRIMP vacuum bagging process resulting in a lighter yet stronger structure. In addition, the services of the Van Cappellen Consultancy of the Netherlands were used in adding a custom insulation system throughout, dramatically reducing noise levels while underway.
STARR's layout is perfectly configured for extended cruising, maximizing space and overall ease of operation. Exterior features include a spacious 16' wide by 12' deep aft deck and full walk-around side decks with 2 1/2' bulwarks. Port and starboard curved stairways aft lead down to a 5' swim platform and an aircraft style water-tight door in the center of the euro- transom, accessing the crew's area and engine room. Another stairway forward on the port side of the aft deck leads up to the flybridge and boat deck.
Interior joinery throughout the yacht is done in a satin finished Makore (African Cherry) wood accented with high gloss Carpathian Elm burl trim. All flooring is planked mahogany covered in most areas with textured bound edge carpeting.
Upon entering the salon from the aft deck one is immediately impressed with feelings of understated elegance, openness and warmth. The ambiance is further enhanced by large side windows with matching Makore wood blinds plus various available combinations of lighting both overhead and around the perimeter. Moving forward from the salon, up one step, is the fully equipped galley to starboard and dining table for 6 to port. Next are port and starboard style, water tight side entry doors followed by the pilothouse with center helm and electronics array.
A stairway on the forward port side of the pilothouse leads down to the full beam master stateroom with his and her baths, VIP guest stateroom and twin guest stateroom both with ensuite baths. The captain and crew's staterooms, crew's head, utility/laundry area and engine room, located below deck aft, are accessed from the interior via a stairway on the port side aft in the main salon. This provides complete privacy for the owners and their guests.
The main salon is access from the aft deck through a stainless steel framed, tinted sliding glass door. Immediately to starboard is a granite topped L-shaped wet bar with ice maker, wine cooler, glass and bottle storage. Following the bar, on the starboard side is Makore wood cabinetry providing an abundance of storage, as well as housing the large flat screen TV. On the port side is an eleven foot build-in sofa covered in ultra-suede, surrounding an oval shaped cocktail table finished in high gloss Carpathian Elm burl with a beveled glass top. This area is fully carpeted. In the center of the ceiling is a round panel fiber optic light fixture which creates an illusion of starlight.
Forward of the salon, up one step starboard, is the galley. Equipped for the most demanding chef, there is abundant storage and work space. All countertops and backsplashes are done in Giallo Veneziano pattern granite. All of the appliances are faced in satin finished Makore wood to match the cabinetry and drawers. Directly across from the galley on the port side is the dining area with a rectangular table finished in high gloss Carpathian Elm Burl. Seating is for 6 on the ultra suede settee and two upholstered stools. The entire dining area is elevated approximately 6 inches and is open to the salon and pilothouse.
The pilothouse offers excellent visibility fore and aft. There are two Stidd helm seats, mounted centerline, facing the helm with elm burl and stainless destroyer style wheel. All instruments and electronics are mounted on the console and are thoughtfully places within easy reach and sight of the helmsman. A chart locker to starboard of the helm and lockers below provide an abundance of storage. Aircraft style water tight doors flank the helm, port and starboard. The master electrical panels are on the starboard side of the pilothouse.
The master suite is full beam and features a king size bed in a Makore wood frame with storage beneath. Abaft of the bed, with entry doors port and starboard are his and her baths with marble floors and vanities, Grohe fixtures and Headhunter Royal Flush heads. The baths are separated by an enormous stall shower with marble floor and heavy glass swinging doors with custom painted artwork. The aft bulkhead of the stateroom is mirrored in a sunburst pattern and a framed mirror is over the master berth as well. Built-in nightstands flank the bed on either side. On the starboard side of the room is a built-in vanity/dressing table with mirror and upholstered stool. Along the port side is a built-in chest of drawers. A large walk-in closet is on the forward port side. Two smaller closets are port and starboard. The flat screen TV is built-in to the forward bulkhead slightly to port. A refrigerator is housed in a cabinet below the TV.
An easy curved stairway from the aft deck leads to the expansive flybridge and boat deck. The flybridge helm is centerline and contains a predominately independent electronics package, Stidd helm chair and built-in companion seats on either side. Visibility is excellent in all directions. Aft of the helm on the starboard side is a large cushioned settee and rectangular hi-lo dining/cocktail table. Further aft is a large cushioned sunpad with storage underneath. An L shaped fiberglass bar unit is built in on the port side containing a refrigerator, barbecue grill, 2 burner hot plate and a sink. The boat deck carries 16' Nautica and 1500# davit. The flybridge is covered by a striking custom designed fiberglass hardtop with extensive lighting. There is also a brand NEW EZ2CY three sided enclosure.
The large aft deck is the ideal spot for al fresco dining with seating for 8. An 8 foot lounge with cushioned seat and back is aft, facing an adjustable 7' teak hi-lo table. In addition, four teak deck chairs fit nicely around the outside of the table. This area also has an aft sun shade to provide sun protection while dining.
The fore deck has cushioned lounge seating for three as well as a large sunpad. Storage lockers, port and starboard, contain a custom rail system for easy boarding ladder storage as well as fenders, lines and supplies.
The hull and superstructure are finished in white gel coat with an extra gel coat layer on the hull and exterior paint. The hull, decks and superstructure are constructed using SCRIMP vacuum bagging technology with solid fiberglass bottom, longitudinal stringers and high density Divinycell foam coring above the waterline. The decks and superstructure are also foam cored. Entire boat was painted in 2014.
While being built, a special multi layer insulation system was installed under the guidance of The Van Cappellen Consultancy of The Netherlands. Areas of concentration include the fore and aft bulkheads and ceiling of the engine room, sides of the master stateroom and at the bow. As a result, noise levels while underway are extraordinarily low.
