Fortitude is a fine example of traditional boat building in the modern day, the work of Fortuna Yachts (South Africa) must be seen to be appreciated, as with all wooden yachts Fortitude is in need of some love here and there but the finish line is in sight and the majority of the remaining work is cosmetic. Fortitude is well equipped with all the expected equipment including a powerful diesel engine (Cummins) and a full Galley, Fortitude boasts 12 berths, her potential is unrivalled and she must be seen to appreciate the impression of this terrific blue water cruiser. Lying ashore at Sutton Wharf, Rochford. Dean & Holland Yacht Brokers would be glad to provide more information and facilitate viewings, please do get in touch.

Construction Notes From a 2021 Survey
‘The Bruce Roberts 53ft Wood Sailing Yacht, Fortitude, was a yacht undergoing an extensive refit. Much of the hull, deck and frames were in a good or satisfactory condition. Isolated areas of hull planking and stringers were found to be soft with wood rot. In general, but not exclusively, these were below the chainplates. The outer planking of the hull was generally sound with two significant exceptions: these were an isolated penetration of the laminate on the starboard side and the keel timber forward of the ballast keel. The subdeck was found to be wet and rotted in areas of the side and aft decking. In all cases the full extent of the repair necessary could not be determined without removal of external laminates.
By the nature of wood and the methods of construction a complete assessment of the condition of the vessel was not possible. It is likely that further issues will come to light during the refit and routine works, some of which may be significant.’
