Manufacturer Provided Description
Robert Perry has written that the Tayana 52 is one of his favorite designs. Blending a low freeboard with a long waterline and a moderate beam, the Tayana 52 appears to be moving even when it's tied to a dock. Like most Tayana yachts, this ocean-proven greyhound is available in center or aft cockpit configurations. Side decks are wide and deck space is abundant. Typically sailed as a cutter rig, the Tayana 52 is remarkably seakindly for such a powerful hull and sail plan. Tayana 52's have won major offshore races and have been owned by such knowledgeable sailors as Lowell North and Craig Breedlove. In many ways it can be said that the Tayana 52 is the kind of yacht that racing sailors choose to cruise. CONSTRUCTION Hand-laminated fiberglass with PVC foam sandwich construction, with net and woven rovings, isophthalic resins. isophthalic gelcoat on all exterior fiberglass surfaces. A matrix of longitudinal and transverse foam-cored stringers in the lower hull providing maximum hull stiffness. Internal cast iron ballast glassed into a modified fin keel with choice of drafts. Skeg-mounted rudder, with internal stainless steel rudder post and integral stainless steel reinforcement. The deck is of hand lay-up fiberglass construction using end grain light wood sandwich coring. All deck hardware areas are reinforced using encapsulated marine grade plywood. Deck hardware is through-bolted using stainless steel backing plates.
