The level of construction of these boats has resulted in the current reputation of the Sigma 38 as being extremely seaworthy. The Sigma 38 has proved itself as being a solid cruiser/racer for offshore and inshore use. It's excellent accommodation of 8-10 berths and large forward facing sail storage offers great accommodation and performance at a sensible price.
Wave Train is a well maintained example of the Sigma 38. She retains her original livery of Oyster white topsides and coach roof, grey cavita line, blue boot top lines and blue antifouling paint beneath the water line. Her interior is the "ODD" layout with the two double cabins aft, saloon berths each side of the large table and the excellent pilots cots to port and starboard outboard of them.
A new VolvoPenta D 130 engine was fitted in 2013. Approximately 460 engine hours. Shaft driven 2 bladed folding propeller, and Volvo dripless shaft seal. The fuel tank holds approximately 114litres of diesel.

A Selden Furlex roller furling system is fitted for the genoa.
The Rig is by Selden. Class approved double spreader keel stepped rig, with swept back spreaders plus topmast backstay and the optional "runners" or checkstays for enhanced windward performance. The rig is in very good condition, it is estimated that it was replaced around 2005. A heel restraint connects and restrains the heel of the mast in the cabin. The boom and spinnaker pole are in similarly very good condition.
Deck laid to non slip, anodised aluminium toerails. 2 s.s. bow rollers leading to self draining anchor locker, Plough anchor chain & warp. 2 Fair leads, 2 fwd, aft cleats. S.S. pulpit, pushpit & guardwires.
2 full length Genoa tracks on deck with moveable Genoa cars.
2 Jib tracks mounted on coachroof for blade. Spinnaker pole on deck chocks. Raised coachroof with large forward hatch, 2 teak grab handles.
Control lines and halyards are fed through deck organisers to clutches either side of the companionway. The working jib and no 2 genoas utilise the inboard tracks, while the overlapping headsail, is sheeted via longer tracks on the side decks. A strong point forward may be used to attach a removable inner forestay, currently not included in the inventory.
All lines led aft through turning blocks and jammers on coach roof to 2 Lewmar 40 halyard winches, 2 Lewmar 52 self tailing primary sheet winches, jib winches mounted on coach roof, 2 Lewmar 40 spinnaker running backstay winches. Full length mainsheet track with harken control mainsheet car, upgraded main tweeker system. Deep, safe T-shaped cockpit laid to teak with lazerette locker, with gas storage.
Wheel & binnacle with compass & engine controls. Wheel steering is via a large "Destroyer" type wheel, with leather covering, Whitlock binnacle and solid linkage to the quadrant, mounted on the bulkhead in the aft storage lazarette. The bronze bearing has a greaser and pump mounted within easy reach in the locker. The binnacle was refurbished and powder coated in 2014.
Winch handle pockets. Bridge deck leading to sliding companionway & washboard. Sprayhood. Sugar scoop stern with folding s.s. bathing ladder.
The boom is of the new profile by Selden and contains lines for mainsail outhaul and 3 slab reefs with lines fed aft to the cockpit. The mainsheet traveller is the Lewmar recirculation ball type, and in good condition. The binnacle compass is by Plastimo.
The cockpit teak has been replaced and is in good condition. The original teak faced plywood has been replaced with solid teak and the caulking and general appearance of the cockpit is good.
Bronze sea cocks throughout, replaced 2013.
Electric and manual bilge pumps are fitted. The manual pump is operated from the cockpit.
Teak finished with grey stripped dralon upholstery in good condition.
Forward V-berth double, , two small lockers towards the front of the forward cabin.Sail storage below, hanging wardrobe, portside storage cupboard. Starboardside forward heads, vanity unit, H&C water, sea toilet, cupboard storage. Saloon with central table with folding leaves & drinks cabinet in centre, large locker to take wine bottles and another locker fitted out to take wine glasses, hanging locker in the saloon, portside single berth settee, outboard sea berth, starboardside single berth settee, outboard sea berth. Portside aft, double berth cabin with outboard storage, hanging lockers, cave lockers, 2 opening ports. Starboard side double aft cabin, with outboard storage, hanging lockers, cave lockers, 2 opening ports, plus sink with hot and cold taps. Starboardside L-shaped galley. Portside aft, excellent forward facing chart table to port, with a large table surface and good storage for charts with nav instruments.
The galley features ample stowage, a top loading refrigerator, Spinflo Nelson gas cooker 2006, with twin burners, oven and grill, twin stainless steel sinks with mixer tap for hot and cold water.The fridge unit by Waeco was replaced in 2013.
Domestic water is heated in a calorifier tank, new in 2013, by engine and shore power. Hot water tank is approximately 15litres, cold water tanks are approximately 220litres.
The heads forward to starboard, feature the Labsco toilet with manual locking pump. Mixer tap feeds hot and cold water to a faucet.
Solid GRP lay up, glassed and bolted main bulkheads in marine grade plywood. The keel is a cast iron and lead composite and is attached with 13 stainless steel bolts with uprated backing plates, as is customary with the 38
The hull deck joint is sealed and bolted through aluminium toe rails which are in good condition.
Wave Train benefits from strengthening of the internal hull stiffening matrix around the keel box.
