This 35 ' cruiser/racer is an excellent example of how a yacht is able to combine great sailing characteristics with cruising ability. The Express was built in Midland ON., a part of Great Lakes boat building history. This vessel has seen extensive refurbishment with replacement of existing systems and has recently been surveyed. Imagine a boat built in 1986 rating "above average" in all categories.
Rivendell has cruised the Carribean, hauled for regular maintenance, and now has returned to Georgian Bay.
The layout includes a double cabin on the port side, aft of the galley. A fully equipped nav station is found on the starboard side opposite the galley, with the head immediately aft on the starboard quarter.
The main saloon leads to a double vee berth forward. The interior boasts a good balance of traditional woodwork and practical fiberglass finish. Ample light and ventilation is provided through opening deck hatches and after hours there is all new lighting throughout the interior.
The Express 35 has a masthead sloop rig with stainless rod rigging and a hydraulic backstay adjuster.
The cockpit is safe, secure and functional with most of the sail handling brought to the helmsperson.
The list of improvements commissioned by the owner is well documented and extensive. An addendum is required to justify the care that this boat has received and the current owners want only for Rivendell to continue to provide sailing pleasure to new owners.
Canadian Yachting says, "we give the Express 35 high marks for its combination of sailing performance, comfortable appointments and quality finish".
