Looking for a clean world capable cruising boat? Well here it is! This Holman & Pye design is well known for its sailing abilities and the rugged construction under the watchful eye of Henri Wauquiez. The Pertorien 35 is a Keel Stepped, Double Spreader, Masthead Sloop with Fin Keel and Rudder on Skeg. Among the attributes that make this design so successful are the longish fin keel and skeg hung rudder. This allows for greater tracking stability, higher pointing, and the ability to beat off a lee shore. Another design consideration from the boards of Holman & Pye are the IOR influences. The pinched stern aiding in downwind performance, and high aspect mainsail with short boom for easier mainsail handling especially in a blow offshore.
The construction is superb. This is a solid fiberglass layup with a Balsa cored deck reinforced with backing plates in high load areas. Many of the high quality construction features are sometimes not readily apparent. Everywhere you look you will not find any raw fiberglass edges with all interior surfaces finished. The bulkheads and interior components are not just ‘tabbed’ in, but completely attached to the hull. Among the many attributes, and this is a major one, are 6 full length longitudinal stringers. These prevent any torsional twisting, ‘oil canning’, and hull flex.
This boat has undergone a major refit, beautiful restoration or refurbishment. The most obvious among is the beautiful NEW "Cadet Blue" LPU painted hull, with White decks and Contrasting Khaki non-skid. She has a NEW Volvo 40hp Diesel engine and Saildrive with Feathering Max Prop. NEW Standing Rigging and Chainplates including new backing plates and bolts. NEW Running Rigging with Harken Cascading 2-speed mainsheet (4:1/8:1), Genoa Track with Adjustable Lead Cars and, Schafer 2100 Roller Furling, NEW Steering components, even the Rudder Bearings. NEW Stainless Steel Fuel Tank and Water Tanks including hoses and deck plates. NEW Electrical equipment includes 50A Mastervolt Charger, 4ea 400Ahr 6v (800Ahr @ 12v) Mastervolt batteries, Victron Isolation Transformer for foreign ports of call, Sinewave Inverter, and Electronic lighting controls. NEW Plumbing systems with pump, 6 gal Isotemp heater, hoses, and valves, even Cockpit Shower. NEW Bottom Paint 12/18 too.
This is a beautiful example of a well proven design for both cruising or racing, whether offshore or around the buoys, (Northern California PHRF rating of 132). FREE YOURSELF represents an excellent value with quality construction rivaling the finest boats available. This is hull number 171 and with over 200 hulls built this should tell you something.
If you are looking for a turn-key cruising boat this one is not ready for you. Many of those personalizations are not here. NO Dodger, Auto pilot, Plotter, Radar, Windlass, Wind vane, Wind generator, or Solar! Just good bones.
All of the work on the boat has been done by some of the most qualified, respected, talented, and certified people in Northern California, and it shows. The riggers, electricians, boat yard, and paint craftsmen are well respected and to be commended for their work as you can see.
