With over 100 built, this is the most popular DeFever design ever; few designs ever penned have enjoyed the enduring appeal of the DeFever 44. A heavily built solid fiberglass hull, full length keel, flared bow, deep forefoot and full displacement hull ensure a dry and comfortable ride in offshore conditions, and a 1,000 mile-plus range makes her eminently well suited for serious cruising.
Note the design is unusual for a trawler in that it's a flush deck with walk-around decks. It also offers a walk-in engine room, a huge aft stateroom, 6'4 headroom throughout (5'6 even in the engine room!) and solid teak joinery. The boat was built at a yard specifically constructed for building the DeFevers so there are none of the quality issues sometimes associated with Taiwanese-built yachts.
This particular example spent most of her life in a covered fresh water slip up in the Delta and shows very nicely inside and out with the gel coat in particular showing much newer than actual age--when I first saw the vessel I thought she'd been Awlgripped!
Forward stateroom with large V-berth, private head, hanging locker and access to engine room.
Up six steps to salon and galley. Salon has lower steering station with pedestal seat, sliding doors to sidedecks port and starboard and built in L shaped settee with drop-down folding leaf table. Galley is up aft port part of salon and has pass-through into both salon and aft deck.
From salon, down aft to master stateroom or up aft to deck. Master stateroom has centerline queen, private head with stall shower, a handy vanity and a large hanging locker.
Aft deck is enclosed in Lexan which can be snapped up, enclosure in perfect shape as is the aft deck teak.
Note 6'5 headroom throughout most of interior, teak parquet floors, spacious interior is light and airy with Webasto diesel-fired heat so it's cozy all year 'round (Webasto installed 1995).
Twin deep stainless steel sinks with hot/cold pressure water, propane stove with oven, original top/front loading frigerator/freezer.
VacuFlush toilet in aft head, Groco manual pump forward, Splendide washer/dryer in engine room.

Twin 135 hp Ford Lehman fresh water cooled six cylinder diesel engines with Velvet Drive transmissions, stainless steel shafts thru bronze struts to four bladed bronze props. Hydraulic steering, stainless steel rudders.
Note port engine was replaced in 2004 (not rebuilt, REPLACED!), the engines burn about 3 gph combined (offering a range of over 2,000 nautical miles), 5'-plus headroom in the engine room.
