Current Owner Updates
Previous Owner Improvements
In comparison to much larger center cockpit vessels, the Irwin 38 is surprisingly well-proportioned with an overall layout consisting of a main cabin, two staterooms, two heads and a comfortable walk-through passageway aft. There is a private stateroom forward with ensuite head, large raised deck salon aft with adjacent galley, icebox, and master stateroom aft with athwart-ships queen berth and ensuite head. Thirteen opening ports, two Lexan fixed windows in the raised deck salon and seven overhead opening hatches all provide excellent ambient lighting and ventilation. The settee cushions were replaced in June, 2017 and the window coverings were replaced in July, 2017. There is over six-foot of standing headroom throughout the cabin and Sea Hawk can sleep six adults very comfortably.
Forward Guest Stateroom
The forward stateroom is one step down from the raised deck salon and is lined with an off-white fiberglass panel, white laminated bulkheads and teak trim. The berth is V-shaped with filler and is approximately six-feet five-inches in length. There are storage shelves outboard, port and starboard, with a large storage bin directly under the berth (presently holding staysail rigging). Further forward, under the cushion, is another storage area. Looking forward, there is a louvered teak hatch, which gains access into the forepeak chain locker. Directly aft and below the V-berth are six, custom, extended drawers for storage. Aft and to port of the V-berth is a combination four-drawer storage cabinet with attached hanging locker. The space on top of this unit allows for storage. Within the forward stateroom there are: three opening ports; one overhead opening hatch; two brass 12V reading lamps; one overhead SS 12V lamp; and one 120V outlet. All teak is varnished and there is a teak and holly sole.
Forward Ensuite Head
The ensuite head is aft and to starboard of the V-berth and has: a molded fiberglass vanity with sink; pressure hot/cold water; hand shower and mirror; storage below and outboard; manual marine head with Y-valve and holding tank; 12V lighting fixture; and one overhead opening port. Separating the forward stateroom from the salon is a teak privacy door.
Raised Deck Salon
The raised deck salon is very spacious, comfortable and airy with: three forward windows; two overhead opening hatches; and two fixed windows port and starboard. The sole is varnished teak and holly. Forward and on centerline is the vessel’s compression post. Under the salon sole, via an inspection hatch, is the vessel’s battery bank and hot water heater. Below the salon settees and outboard are Sea Hawk’s water and fuel tanks. To port of the salon is an approximate six-foot, five-inch bench settee with custom teak. Aft and to starboard of the salon is a storage cabinet adjacent to the navigation station containing storage behind a hinged door and dry storage locker on top. The raised deck salon also has: two overhead brass 12V lamps; four brass 12V reading lamps; two stereo speakers; 120V outlets; varnished teak companionway steps with bottom teak drawer; and front access panel to engine.
Aft Master Stateroom
The master stateroom is very large for a 38-foot center cockpit vessel and contains a athwart-ships queen bed. This berth has a new 10” memory gel mattress (3/2018). Below the berth are six elongated storage drawers and behind the bed is custom, vertical, lined teak paneling that accentuates the cabin’s teak and off-white laminated decor. Forward, and to starboard, is a large hanging locker and on centerline is a vanity with mirror and table. Directly below the vanity is a panel, which allows easy access to the rear of the engine. The master stateroom is well lit and ventilated with: two opening hatches; four additional opening ports; two 12V reading lamps; two vanity lamps; and two overhead 12V lamps. There are also four 120V outlets in this cabin.
Aft Ensuite Head
Looking aft to port of the master stateroom is an ensuite head with: teak privacy door; a molded fiberglass vanity with bulkhead mirror, sink and storage below/outboard; pressure hot/cold water; hand shower; manual marine head with Y-valve and holding tank; and a 12V lamp.
The U-shaped galley is one step down and aft to port of the salon. The galley is very functional and can be safely operated in a seaway. There is a counter top outboard with an island counter top on centerline. On this island there is a custom dry storage locker under as a cover and engine hatch below to facilitate maintenance. The U-shaped galley also has large storage cabinets above and outboard with four drawers and a large storage locker under. There are two storage areas under the floorboards. Other features of the galley include:
