Designed by Hubert Van de Stadt and built by Vandestadt and McGruer in Owen Sound, the Sirius 28 is a Canadian classic with contemporary features.
A Canadian Yachting review by Paul Howard in 1986 described the Sirius 28 as a reliable, appealing cruiser of 'modern, conservative' design.
The generous beam, high freeboard and high coachroof create a wonderfully spacious interior, and the beam carried aft results in a large cockpit, generally found on newer designs. Inboard shrouds, slab reefing with internal lines, inboard sheeting and halyard led to the cockpit create simple and efficient sail handling.
A long waterline, fin keel, spade rudder and sharp entry were cutting edge design features, still common today. The boat handles easily, tracks well and accelerates nicely in the puffs.
The deck is foam cored, and stanchions are bolted through solid fibreglass.
