10.6 metre (35 ft) classic masthead sloop rigged yacht, with centre cockpit and long keel.
Part 1 British Registered in 1970. Port of Registry, Cowes, UK
Built in Sweden in 1970 by Christof Rassy to a design by Ollie Enderlein, this is one of the first GRP production models of this classic yacht. The design became the Halberg Rassy Rasmus 35 in 1972, with 760 built when production ceased in 1979.
A number of models were completed in the UK in the early 1970’s, and marketed by Freeman Yachts as the NAB 35.
“Gralyn” was supplied to Freeman Yachts by Christof Rassy as a fully completed Rasmus. She was used by the Company to market the NAB 35, and shown at the 1970 Southampton Boat Show, where she was sold to her first owner.
From 1970 to 2018 she has only had 4 owners.
She has a heavily moulded hull in solid laminate, with moulded-in hull stringers and bulkheads for added strength. The deck and coachroof is foam cored, for lightness and insulation. With a long keel and encapsulated ballast, she is an excellent sea boat and handles well in moderate to heavy weather.
Her partly enclosed centre cockpit gives good shelter to helmsman and crew.
There are fixed berths for four, with additional accommodation for two by converting the saloon seating to a double berth. There is also excellent stowage space.
In 2002, she had a major re-fit. Work included:
Full hull epoxy coating below the water line at an accredited Blake boat yard.
(This was precautionary. No osmosis was evident in the hull)
Replacement of rudder bearings and pinions.
Replacement of all through hull valves.
Replacement of mast, boom, genoa furling gear, standing rigging running rigging etc.
Replacement of aft cabin berth cushions
Installation of new heads and holding tank.
Installation of new gas cooker.
Installation of a new Isotherm fridge, with water cooled compressor.
Installation of new teak toe rail.
Installation of new self tailing genoa sheet winches.
Re-building of electric anchor windlass.
Paint work, varnish work, fittings and furnishings, rig, and mechanics, have been continuously maintained by the present owners.
Bimini and cockpit covers were replaced in 2017. The cockpit can be fully enclosed in wet weather.
Fitted out for Mediterranean cruising, with electric anchor windlass, stern mounted gantry to support solar cells and wind charger, and a transom mounted swim platform and ladder, fabricated from quality stainless steel.
The electrical system is served by three house batteries, each of 120aH, with a separate 100aH battery dedicated to engine starting. New batteries were installed in 2016.
Charging is by split relay, from the engine, from 150 Watts of solar cells, a Rutland wind generator, or a Stirling intelligent charger when connected to shore power.
A galvanic isolator is installed, and all metalwork is bonded together.
Navigation electronics have been upgraded as required.
The main sail, by Kemps Sailmakers, UK, is fully battened, in good condition, and dates from 1995.
The genoa, also by Kemps, was supplied new in 2017. The original 1995 genoa is available in good condition, but is of very heavy material.
An Avon inflatable dinghy with solid transom, and a 2016 Suzuki 2.5hp 4 stroke outboard is included.
The engine had a major service in 2016, including replacement of timing belt.
