Built of teak on oak frames by McLean of Renfrew, this 1941 Admiralty Lifeboat has been converted into a small cruiser with accommodation for four. Forward twin or double cabin and the saloon seating can convert to a double berth. Perkins 42hp diesel engine installed 2014 (manufactured 1977, ex MOD spare and not used), and has since completed over 700 hours. This five and a half ton Admiralty Lifeboat can cruise at 6 knots with diesel consumption of 4.2 litres per hour. Recent price reduction and a reasonable offer will be considered.

This engine was manufactured in 1977 then stored as an MOD spare but never used. It was purchased in 2014 and fitted to 'Betty Jean' in February that year. The previous engine was the same model and the following is a list of spares available with the boat,

The engine is offset to port at an angle and is connected to the intermediate shaft by a rubber coupling which drives through a pillow block bearing (renewed 2018), then via a carden shaft with universal joints at each end, through a pillow block bearing (renewed 2018) to the tail shaft, and to the 142 phosphor bronze propellor.
Engine cooling is from a hull valve forward of the engine and an in-line filter and piped to the Bowman heat exchanger mounted to port of the engine. Cooling water is fed from the heat exchanger into the high lift exhaust that is piped via a waterlock to the port waterline.
The freshwater cooling system is a convential pressurised closed loop system with header tank, thermostat and belt driven pump piping water to the heat exchanger.
The fuel tank is located aft and fuel is piped to the engine via a water trap to the electric lift pump that is fitted with a return line.

Built in 1941 by McLean of Renfrew for the Admiralty. The hull is of clinker design, teak planking fastened on to oak ribs with copper nails and rooves and with a massive bolted keel and keelson fitted with breasthooks for lifting, towing eyes, stringers and beam shelves, sawn floors and shaped rubbing strake. The keel is slightly hogged.
Externally the hull has a small fore, aft decks and side decks all renewed in 2007. The coachroof sides and GRP shethed plywood top were renewed in 2007. Also fitted at that time, new hardwood bilge keels on doubler planks with steel set down pads.

The owner purchased 'Betty Jean' in 2003 and has sailed this boat extensively from Rona in the north west of Scotland to Caernarfon in north Wales and all points in between.
Detailed log books have been kept by the owner from 2003 and also a file with all purchases during this time with details of suppliers.
