The Doug Zurn designed MJM 34z has made a name for itself as a seaworthy Downeast design with beautiful lines and impressive fuel economy. At roughly 2 gallons per hour at her fast cruise speed of 19-20 knots, she’s merely sipping fuel compared to other boats in her class. She’s a stable and safe platform and easily maneuvered by a shorthanded crew. Her efficient layout is spacious enough for a couple for extended cruising and a crew of six or more for harbor cruises. There is excellent storage and systems access throughout. Full access to the engine and mechanical spaces is provided through hydraulic deck lift system, which lifts the cockpit forward and up out of the way for complete and unrestricted access.

ENCORE’s interior is finished in cherry, with liberal use of white bulkheads and light headliner surfaces that create a bright feeling down below. Her cabin sole is teak and holly. Companionway treads and door are solid teak. Her hull sides are lined with cherry battens.
A louvered teak bifold door opens to ENCORE’S cabin. Immediately to port is an open hanging locker. Two steps descend to the galley which is immediately to port. At the aft end of the Corian countertop is a single electric burner and sink with pressure hot/cold water. Below are three drawers and a locker. The refrigerator is forward and features a hinged top opening as well as a drawer providing side access. Outboard above the galley counter is a sliding door locker with shelves, a microwave/convection oven and a small storage space below. There is an opening port above that provides ventilation.
The head is opposite the galley to starboard. The compartment is finished with a molded shower pan and white laminate bulkheads with cherry trim and locker doors. A shower is integral to the space. A Vacuflush electric head is at the aft end. There is a Corian counter outboard with sink forward. There are two lockers beneath the counter and a sliding door locker and a shelf above. An opening port ventilates the space.
The salon forward features a large U-shaped settee surrounding a table with leaves. The settee is upholstered in tan Ultraleather. There is storage beneath and outboard of the seats as well as below the raised portion of the cabin sole. There are shelves outboard along the hull sides, two opening ports and a hatch, all with privacy shades.

ENCORE’s hull is a modified deep-V offshore hull design with a sharp entry and moderate beam, providing a stable and seaworthy platform. A propeller pocket allows for shallow draft. Great care was taken in her hull construction, the detailing of which is similar to that of a high quality lightweight racing sailboat. Her hull is constructed in E-glass and epoxy resin with Corecell closed cell foam core which is vacuum bagged and post cured. A solid GRP keel and chines and structural grid provide great strength. Her deck is E-glass and epoxy resin with Baltek balsa core, vacuum bagged and post cured. The hull and deck are glued and bolted on 8-10” centers. Solid fiberglass or high compression Penske Board are used in any location where there are thru hull fittings or bolted hardware.
Her deck is white gelcoat with tan nonskid. Her hull is painted green with gold sheer stripe and white boot stripe. At the bow, there is a stainless anchor roller with Bruce anchor. A stainless plate protects the bow from anchor scuffs and there is a automatic anchor wash system. There are two mooring cleats with chocks. A stainless rail surrounds the foredeck and there are stainless rails on the cabin top and along the pilothouse roof. There are mooring cleats at midships and at the stern. The cockpit is large, with an opening door to the swimstep at the starboard aft corner. Three cockpit lockers provide excellent storage space. Her pilothouse is enclosed on the side and aft end with canvas curtains which may be rolled up to provide ventilation. Front windows also open for ventilation. There are Phifertex mesh sun shades/privacy curtains for the windshield and side windows. The sole in the pilothouse is planked in teak which is vacuum bagged to the deck with no fasteners. There are straight settees to port and starboard with storage space beneath. Upholstery is tan Ultraleather. A beautiful teak table with folding leaf is slightly offset to port. Forward, there are two Stidd helm chairs in matching Ultraleather. At the dash to port and starboard, there is a flat space for charts and guide books. Radar/chartplotter, autopilot controls, VHF radio and other electronics are close at hand.
