The Catalina 36 successfully combines nice accommodations, a secure workable deck plan, and satisfying performance under sail.
The hull is efficient and stable with graceful lines and designed with a spacious interior.
The rig is powerful but still easily handled by a short-handed crew. The rudder is a balanced blade with a long horizontal skeg molded into the hull, providing a light helm and good tracking ability.
The decks have molded bulwards and non-skid. The side decks are wide and carried well aft for secure access to the cockpit.
Forward is a large anchor well with anchor storage and double anchor rollers.
There are four opening hatches on deck, plus the main hatch for lots of light and air below. Two dorade-type ventilators insure ventilation even in inclement weather.
The interior has been designed to accommodate an active family or crew.
The salon is big and open. Cabinets and shelving surround comfortable seating for group entertaining. A unique feature is the second table on the starboard side.
Meal times and food preparation are an important part of any cruise and this has been reflected in the attention given to the galley design.
There is a large ice box with shelving and a separate dry storage locker. The stove is gimballed and provided with potholders and a safety rail.
Opposite the galley is a navigators desk with swivel chair, chart storage and drawers. The electric panel is located above the desk.
The unique aft cabin is furnished with a settee to starboard, a hanging locker, and a double bunk to centerline. An accordion door closes off the aft cabin for privacy.
Another cabin is forward with oversized V-berths, full sitting headroom and reading lamps over each bunk. There is plenty of room for dressing and large hanging locker. Lots of drawers and bins have been provided for extended living aboard.
The head is forward and to port. Mirror finishes and crisp white formica trimmed in teak create a bright airy feeling. There is a seat for the shower area and a teak grate sole with integral shower sump below. A translucent opening hatch above provides light and ventilation.
A double stainless steel sink, ample counter space, storage and lighting complete the galley for a great work space.
The accommodation plan of the 36 is designed to reflect the needs of the sailing family who want to enjoy their leisure and cruising time afloat to the fullest.
