The Whitman Yacht was built by Bristol Yachts in 1984 for the Don of Savannah's sailing community and history. Originally commissioned as a 45.5 he sent her back to the factory where it became the prototype 47.7 to enhance its visual appeal and add needed lazarette storage. It was built to celebrate his 60th birthday, acknowledge his love of racing sailboats, and reward his wife for tolerating more spartan predecessors.
During the first 30 years with the original owner, this yacht had the same full time maintenance man caring for her. In 2014 she was sold to a neighbor allowing the familiar team to refresh her under the care of a passionate captain, who operated her in local eco tourism, and prepare her for extended cruising. A change in the owner's course makes this truly unique craft available for the next owner's loving care.
This is one of the few yachts you will inspect which cannot help but exceed your expectations. With the elegance of yesteryear and the most up to date technology, you have the best of both worlds at your fingertips. A complete, state of the art Garmin electronics package, including onboard wi-fi, was installed in November of 2015. The large, fully equipped galley, comfortable saloon, two generous cabins, and two heads with separate showers give you all the comforts of home in air conditioned luxury. The ketch rig allows more sail area, still being ICW compatible. And with bow thruster, auto pilot, and roller furling,The Whitman is a breeze to sail, even in a stiff wind!
Post Hurricane Irma condition update: The Whitman did not sustain any damage from Hurricane Irma and is available for inspection anytime.
