LOON is a lovely example of this highly sought after Ted Hood design. She is well maintained and has been consistently upgraded over the course of her life. A refit was undertaken in 2013, with much of that work highlighted throughout the listing. More recently the standing rigging was replaced, new canvas made, including the addition of a cockpit awning, and all the electronics were replaced and now include state-of-the-art 4G radar (at the helm) and AIS.
LOON offers the famed Hood keel/centerboard hull configuration, providing shoal draft sailing and uncommon upwind sailing abilities in a boat that is both practical and comfortable, and with genuine off-shore characteristics not found in most boats her size. She draws 4'-6" with centerboard up, and 10' with centerboard down.
She will be in the water and commissioned for the season in spring of 2018. The owners have found their next boat, so LOON is priced reasonably to sell. We invite your inspection.
Beginning forward is the master stateroom, featuring an offset double berth to port and a double settee aft and to starboard. A large filler at the aft end turns the double into a sizable king berth. Filler may be stored above berth when not in use. Further aft of the settee to starboard is a Corian-topped cabinet with three drawers, and hanging locker with louvered door outboard. Shelving/lockers with wicker-inset sliders outboard and above are port and starboard. A full-length teak-framed mirror hangs on the door. A large overhead hatch and opening portlights provide plenty of light and natural ventilation. Teak hull sheathing is used for a warm and classic look. Swivel-head reading lamps port and starboard. 110v dual outlets.
Next aft to port is a large enclosed head with entry from both the forward stateroom and the salon. The head includes a small teak shower grate; the rest of the soles are easy-to-clean gelcoat. Corian sink and countertop. Storage locker outboard of the sink with black plastic sliding doors and large locker outboard of the head. There is a large oval teak-framed mirror. The toilet area is easily isolated from the rest of the head with a curtain, for double use as a large shower compartment draining to a separate sump. Two opening ports for light and ventilation. There are stainless and teak towel bars, stainless bars for washcloths and a stainless double hook. Swivel light above head and two additional flat-panel lights above sink and mirror.
The main salon is next aft and offers settee berths port and starboard (port side converts to double bunk) with lockers outboard and below, as well as a large varnished teak (double) drop-leaf table between. The table has built-in teak cutlery storage bins and a bottle locker below. Glass fronted locker for stemware to starboard, with open storage area below with removable fiddle. Second open storage area with fiddle to port. Hanging locker aft to starboard. Bespoke storage lockers to port for china, glasses etc. Forwardmost and to starboard in the salon is a cabinet with drawers, located across from the head, with another hanging locker outboard. All locker doors throughout the boat are louvered for ventilation, and there are curtains for shade and privacy for all ports throughout. Two additional opening ports forward and one large overhead hatch add ventilation to the main salon. Overhead lighting outboard of berths. Main cabin ports re-glazed (2015).
Next aft to port is the U-shaped galley which features an off-white Corian sink, green Corian counter tops, a Shipmate stainless steel gimbaled three-burner propane stove and a stainless steel-lined large icebox with removable teak shelving. The ice box is efficient and offers great accessibility with a large dual-opening top. Storage space is plentiful with mahogany dish lockers and foot storage bins. Under-counter “pot locker” with large lift-out Corian lid. Single-lever faucet with pull-out sprayer and pushbutton head. Overhead lighting.
Opposite to starboard is a sit-down navigator's station featuring a full size table with opening top and four drawers. Instruments are mounted outboard of the nav table and include the VHF radio. The large "double" quarterberth, with ample storage below, doubles as the Nav station seat. Brass clock and barometer and swivel reading light at head of berth. Dual 110v outlets.
The interior joinery is lovely varnished teak with a varnished teak and holly sole. Cushions are UltraLeather in good condition. The cabin lighting was recently upgraded with LED lights and systems. There is an abundance of natural light and ventilation, with four dorade vents, six opening ports with screens and two large overhead hatches with screens.
LOON has a beautiful Flag Blue Awlgripped hull with recessed Gold Cove stripe; double white boot stripes and a green painted bottom.
The cockpit is large and comfortable with full-length settees port and starboard for sleeping, and plenty of room for seating a crowd forward of the wheel. A new cockpit awning and handsome dodger (with leather-covered grab bar and center zip-opening window) were installed in 2016. A reefing line winch, line stoppers, cleats and centerboard pennant winch are located on the cabin trunk either side of the companionway. The traveler lines also lead here.
Wide side decks lead fore and aft with double stainless steel bow and stern rails, double stainless steel stanchions with lifelines, and gates port and starboard. Exterior varnished teak includes toe rails (optional taller and tapered toe rails which integrate the bow, midship and stern stainless chocks to the rail while creating an elegant sheer profile with the stainless stemhead fitting and double bow roller); cockpit coamings; cabin top handrails; dorade boxes; eyebrow; companionway instrument fascia, cockpit cubby and companionway slider trim.
