CHARTER VESSEL, EXPEDITION YACHT, RESEARCH VESSEL
The vessel "ROBERT GRAY" has been consistently maintained to proper operational status. A 120' by 26' Steel Vessel originally custom-built by Lake Washington Shipyard of Seattle, WA, for the Army Corps of Engineers as a high-endurance survey & research vessel for Alaskan Waters. She is ideal to serve as a comfortable & capable 12-Passenger Charter Adventure Yacht or Research Vessel and is capable of carrying you, your crew and your guests or passengers anywhere globally. Seller will provide US Coast Guard letter recognizing her as a proper "12-Pac Charter" Vessel, legal to carry twelve paying passengers for hire plus crew. Since coming under private ownership, "ROBERT GRAY" has been chartered by the USGS, US Navy & private companies for research or pleasure cruises. She was Stoutly built in 1936 of steel & has since been re-powered with a V-12 Caterpillar 398 Marine Diesel; she features 4 diesel auxiliary generators, a 5-ton crane, helicopter landing pad, quarters for 8 crew and 6 cabins for guests (plus additional accommodations), large & inviting galley/dining area and separate salon/lounge room. 8000 gallons fuel 3000 gallons water tanks, ship's heating system & much more. She also features bilge keels that extend to the same depth as her central keel; these allow her to sit on a level bottom or on the type of tidal haulout grids common in Alaska which allow one to simply position the vessel over the grid, let the tide receed & have access to the bottom for maintenance etc. without the need or expense of a shipyard. This fully operational sea-going ship was built to go to sea & to stay there; she is well-suited for remote adventure voyaging or remaining on-station in rough conditions for research or other purposes & is fully self-contained & self-sufficient. You pick the destination & she can pretty much go anywhere with comfort & safety. Features include shore boat, full electronics, sewage treatment system, high pressure air compressor for dive tanks, lathe, drill press, welder, many spare parts & tools, water-maker, cabin heating & a great deal more. "ROBERT GRAY" is uniquely capable and a MUST SEE VESSEL!
She has a legal live-aboard berth in Pillar Point Harbor a few miles from San Francisco on Highway 1 down the San Mateo County Coast at the city of Half Moon Bay/Princeton-by-the-Sea ... a beautiful place right on the Pacific Ocean with full amenities, beaches, surfing, restaurants, fish markets, lodging, etc. and just across the Peninsula from Silicon Valley.
"ROBERT GRAY" is also equipped with bilge keels to enable her to be parked on tidal grids (like those found in Alaskan waters) or any suitable flat bottom to be "hauled out" by simply letting the tide go out (note: to achieve a fully dry haul out in this manner a tidal variation in excess of 10' is necessary --typically available from Puget Sound, north --; otherwise one must depend upon the usual boatyard/shipyard haul out facilities; but, this is a very desirable feature for operation in the Pacific Northwest & similar areas of high tidal variation).
